The total tractor sales (Domestic + Exports) during August 2021 were at 21360 units

Mahindra & Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES), part of the Mahindra Group, announced its tractor sales numbers for August 2021. The domestic sales in August 2021 were at 19997 units, as against 23503 units during August 2020. The total tractor sales (Domestic + Exports) during August 2021 were at 21360 units, as against 24458 units for the same period last year. Exports for the month stood at 1363 units. 

 

Hemant Sikka, President – Farm Equipment Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra said, “We have sold 19,997 tractors in the domestic market during August 2021 over last year. The industry saw a de-growth in August over last year due to the high base effect. We saw a smart recovery in overall acreage of Kharif crops with most of the key crops posting acreage levels closer to last year sown area, despite erratic monsoon in select markets. With the festive period on the anvil, which also coincides with the harvesting season, we are anticipating a robust demand in the coming months. In the exports market, we have sold 1363 tractors with a growth of 43 per cent over last year.”

The ‘IDF Global Dairy Conference 2021’ will have its venue at Axelborg in the centre of Copenhagen from October 13-15, 2021 and will be organised by the Danish Dairy Board. Up to 350 people will be able to attend in person and hundreds more online. Registration for the event has recently opened on the IDF Global Dairy Conference homepage.

 

The agenda of the conference is scheduled by a working group headed by the director of the Danish Dairy Board Brussels, Kirsten Holm Svendsen.

 

“The general theme of the conference is ‘A Changing Climate for Dairy’. In other words, it deals with the work on climate solutions carried out by the dairy industry itself, and how the surrounding world – the political and economic conditions – currently change due to national and international climate goals,” says Svendsen.

 

The conference will open with welcome speeches by Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Rasmus Prehnand and EU Commissioner Stella Kyriakides.

 

This will be followed by the Dairy Leaders Panel, whereupon several CEOs of dairy companies will showcase their visions for the global dairy sector over the coming years and discuss several strategies and visions of their respective companies to nourish the world with safe, nutritious, and sustainable dairy products. The panel will begin with CEO Peder Tuborgh, Arla Foods (Denmark), followed by CEO Phillipe Palazzi, Lactalis (France), CEO Jeffrey Lu, Mengniu (China) and President & CEO Rick Smith, Dairy Farmers of America (USA). The session will end with a panel discussion where top dairy managers will discuss the opportunities and challenges within the dairy sector. 

 

Dr Judith Bryans, lead of IDF Task Force on the UN Food Systems Summit will also share the highlights of the Summit and the impacts on the dairy sector. The IDF Forum will be an occasion to invite participants to learn about the work of the organisation.

 

The core of the three-day conference will be a wide range of dairy-related presentations and debates in six sessions with the following headlines: food safety, processing and technology, sustainable diets, farming, politics, economics and marketing. All sessions revolve around the conference theme ‘A Changing Climate for Dairy’, and all presentations will be available live online for those registered.

Veterinary officers were made aware of the latest advances and technologies developed by the institute for improving livestock health and production

The ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh organised the first interface meeting with the participation of the veterinary officers and higher officials of the state departments of animal husbandry of all the districts of Uttar Pradesh. The institute launched the Interface Meeting Series on ’National Campaign on Advances in Animal Health’ with the various state departments of animal husbandry of the country to commemorate 75 Years of India’s independence.

 

The main objective of the meeting was to make the field veterinary officers aware of the latest advances and technologies developed by the institute for improving livestock health and production.

 

The Chief Guest, Dr Bhupendra Nath Tripathi, Deputy Director General (Animal Science) ICAR applauded the contributions of the veterinary professionals in controlling and eradicating several dreaded animal diseases. Dr Tripathi also urged for being prepared to tackle the challenges of the future like improving productivity, feeding quality food to the burgeoning population, tackling several emerging, re-emerging and zoonotic diseases, etc.

 

Dr Praveen Malik, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries, Government of India outlined the various programmes being run by the DAHDF, Government of India for the control and eradication of the various livestock diseases. The need for an Entrepreneurship Development Programme in the field of animal science for the value-addition, traceability, e-commerce and supply chain of the products was emphasised in Dr Malik’s address.

 

Dr SK Mallik, Director, (Administration & Development), Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh emphasised the need for integration of the latest technologies for enhanced productivity of the animals.

 

Dr Indramani Chaudhary, Director (Disease Control & Farms), Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh accentuated the usefulness of the meeting for the field veterinarians. Dr AK Singh, CEO, Uttar Pradesh Livestock Development Board was present during the programme.

 

In his address, Dr Triveni Dutt, Director, ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar, Bareilly deliberated on the various IPR portfolios of the institute. He also accentuated the need for wider adoption of the technologies to improve the productivity of animals.

The ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, Bihar recently organised a webinar on ’Agricultural Residues Conversion to Biofuels through Solar Powered Microwave Pyrolysis.’ 

 

Dr Ujjwal Kumar, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna briefed about the main objective of the webinar. In his Lecture, Dr Manoj Kumar Ghosal, Professor (Farm Machinery), College of Agricultural Engineering, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, Odisha emphasised the importance of the pyrolysis process towards the conversion of agricultural residues to biofuels using the solar-powered microwave.

 

The webinar organised as a part of the ’Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence was aimed at creating awareness among the scientists, faculties, students and stakeholders.

India hosted the 8th Meeting of Agriculture Experts of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Countries virtually Today. Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research & Education & Director General, ICAR chaired the daylong meeting with Dr Thanda Kyi, Deputy Director-General, Department of Planning, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Republic of the Union of Myanmar Co-Chair. Experts of agricultural ministries from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand participated in the meeting.

The chairman highlighted the UN Food System Summit 2021 and the transformations that are happening in the agriculture and food systems globally. He exhorted to enhance the engagement and deepen the cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors amongst the BIMSTEC member states by encouraging the exchange of knowledge, germplasm, students and experts. He also emphasised addressing biosafety and biosecurity concerns and promoting digital agriculture along with the trade of technologies for developing resilient agriculture, food systems and value chains.

The BIMSTEC Member States appreciated the greater engagement of India offering six slots of scholarships each for Master and PhD programmes in agriculture and its other initiatives for capacity development and training including the development of seed sectors. The cooperation in the areas of high impact transboundary diseases of livestock and poultry; aquatic animal diseases and bio-security in aquaculture and digitalisation to promote precision farming was also discussed in the meeting.

The BIMSTEC provides a unique link between South and South-East Asia with five countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka from South Asia and two countries – Myanmar and Thailand from South-East Asia coming together on one platform for cooperation in 14 key economic and social sectors of the economy.

The Senior Officers of DARE and ICAR including Additional Secretary, DARE and Director, DARE; Deputy Director Generals and Assistant Director Generals of ICAR, Director, IARI, and representatives of Ministry of External Affairs joined the virtual meeting at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala organised a one-day awareness programme on combating environmental pollution by biomass burning under Mahindra & Mahindra CSR scheme on 31.8.2021 at KVK, Patiala campus. 110 farmers and farm women participated in the event.

Dr Parminder Singh, Assistant Prof (Animal Sci.), talked about the use of paddy straw in dairy farming. Dr Gurnaz Singh Gill, Assistant Prof. (Proc & Food Engg.) talked about the optimum and efficient use of machinery for crop residue management. 

 

During this event progressive farmers S Narinder Singh, village Dittupur and S. Jasdev Singh, village Ageti also shared their hands-on experience in paddy straw management. Parvinder Kaur Nagra explained various schemes of NABARD to the farmers. Dr Rajbir Brar shared the success stories of progressive farmers of north India and motivated the attendees to double their farmer income by good agricultural practices. Dr Jagir Singh Samra explained the mandate of CRRID to the farmers and introduced the concept of biofuel generation with the help of paddy straw. 

 

Sunil Agnihotri explained the role of Mahindra & Mahindra in combating environmental pollution. Dr Vipan K Rampal, Deputy Director (Trg), KVK, Patiala presented the vote of thanks while stressing the importance of such events as contributing factors for the economic growth of farmers. In the end, all participants visited the demonstration units and exhibition of crop residue machinery displayed by KVK, Patiala.
