Tag Proxy is a patented, non-selective, post-emergent herbicide designed to effectively eliminate all types of weeds. Its advanced formulation ensures comprehensive weed control and long-lasting protection. By streamlining weed management, Tag Proxy helps address critical challenges such as farm labour shortages and rising input costs, offering a highly efficient and farmer-friendly solution

Tropical Agrosystem (India) Pvt. Ltd., a leading name in crop protection and plant nutrition, has announced the nationwide launch of its revolutionary patented herbicide — Tag Proxy. Designed to combat persistent weed problems, Tag Proxy also addresses one of the most pressing challenges facing Indian agriculture today: labour scarcity.

With the dual pressures of rising input costs and a shrinking agricultural workforce, Tag Proxy provides a timely, practical solution. This non-selective, post-emergent herbicide is engineered for single-application control of all weed types, delivering extended protection while significantly reducing the need for manual weeding. Easy to apply and highly efficient, Tag Proxy enables farmers to increase productivity while easing operational demands.

Weed infestation continues to be a major threat to Indian farming. According to a joint study by the Federation of Seed Industry of India (FSII) and the Directorate of Weed Research, weed-related losses account for 25–26 per cent in Kharif crops and 18–25 per cent in Rabi crops, translating into an annual productivity loss exceeding Rs 92,000 cr.

“At Tropical Agro, our mission is rooted in improving farmer welfare through innovation,” said Mr. V.K. Jhaver, Founder, Tropical Agro. “With Tag Proxy, we’re addressing a critical gap in India’s weed management solutions. This product not only improves field efficiency but also mitigates the growing problem of labour unavailability. We remain committed to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that support India’s food security and uplift our farming community.”

With Tag Proxy, Tropical Agro reinforces its commitment to delivering high-impact innovations tailored to the evolving needs of Indian agriculture.

Tag Proxy features a proprietary blend of Paraquat Dichloride 22.4 per cent W/W and Oxyfluorfen 1.99 per cent W/W EW, uniquely formulated for fast action and consistent, season-long results. With just a single spray, the herbicide ensures complete weed control, helping farmers save valuable time, reduce labour costs, and focus on enhancing yields and increasing profitability.

This latest launch builds on the momentum of Tag Stem Lee, India’s first granular insecticide with three active ingredients, introduced by Tropical Agro to combat stem borer and leaf folder infestations in paddy crops. Following a strong and positive market reception, Tag Stem Lee has reinforced Tropical Agro’s reputation for breakthrough agri-solutions tailored to Indian farming conditions.

Tag Proxy, approved by the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee (CIBRC), will be available across India starting May 21, 2025.

With the introduction of Tag Proxy, Tropical Agro further strengthens its commitment to transforming Indian agriculture through innovative, sustainable, and farmer-centric solutions that boost productivity, reduce operational costs, and foster long-term agricultural growth.

The cutting-edge solution is designed to combat two of the most devastating pests in paddy cultivation — Stem Borer and Leaf Folder.

Kolkata based Tropical Agro, a pioneer in agri-input innovation, has unveiled a game-changing breakthrough – Tag Stem Lee, a patented, first-of-its-kind granular insecticide powered by three active ingredients. This cutting-edge solution is designed to combat two of the most devastating pests in paddy cultivation — Stem Borer and Leaf Folder — which continue to significantly impact rice productivity across India.

Rice stem borer infestations in India cause substantial economic losses, with yield reductions ranging from 10 per cent to 40 per cent. Their damage is most severe in the form of ‘dead heart’ during the vegetative stage and ‘white earhead’ during the reproductive stage. Studies indicate that just 1% dead heart can lead to a 0.3 per cent yield loss (approx. 12 kg/ha), while 1% white earhead can result in a 4.2 per cent yield loss (around 183 kg/ha).

Similarly, rice leaf folder infestations can reduce yields by 30 per cent to 80 per cent, posing a serious threat to productivity. These challenges highlight the urgent need for effective and long-lasting pest control solutions to safeguard food security and protect farmer livelihoods. With the Second Advance Estimates projecting 136.437 million metric tonnes (MMT) of rice output for India in 2024–25 (Kharif and Rabi), the urgency for smarter pest solutions has never been higher.

Tag Stem Lee addresses this need with a dual-action, triple-protection formula, delivering superior pest control with just 2 kg per acre. It effectively eliminates key symptoms like Dead Heart and White Earhead, ensuring long-lasting protection and sustainable results with minimal environmental impact. The product is easy to apply—simply mix with FYM (farmyard manure) or sand and broadcast — making it ideal for widespread adoption across both Kharif and Rabi seasons.

Commenting on the launch, V. K. Jhaver, Founder, Tropical Agrosystem (India) Pvt. Ltd., stated: “At Tropical Agro, we are committed to pioneering innovations that help farmers overcome challenges and shape a stronger agricultural future for India. Tag Stem Lee is a major leap forward in offering smarter, safer, and more sustainable crop protection. This patented innovation is only the beginning — many more transformative solutions are in the pipeline.”

R. Shanmuga Sai, Vice President – Sales, Tropical Agrosystem (India) Pvt. Ltd., said, “What sets Tag Stem Lee apart is not just its unique three-active-ingredient formulation, but also its effectiveness at a low dosage and ease of application. It holds immense promise for improving farmer outcomes, particularly in rice-producing states”.

The factory will manufacture both biological and chemical crop protection and plant nutrition products (including Insecticides, Herbicides & Biologicals).

Chennai based fertiliser company Tropical Agro has announced its plan to establish a state-of-the-art factory in Kharagpur, West Bengal. With an investment of Rs 50 crores, this facility will not only enhance the company’s production capacity but also solidify its commitment to creating sustainable livelihoods for farmers. The current investment for the Kharagpur facility is financed through internal sources and bank funding.

The Kharagpur factory, spread across 4 acres, is strategically located to optimise Tropical Agro’s supply chain. By reducing logistics costs and delivery times, the facility ensures that essential crop inputs reach even the remotest regions promptly, safeguarding agricultural productivity. The ground-breaking ceremony has already been completed, and construction will commence in December 2024, with an expected completion by July 2026.

The factory will manufacture both biological and chemical crop protection and plant nutrition products (including Insecticides, Herbicides & Biologicals). This aligns with the company’s goal to cater to growing market demands while promoting sustainability.

West Bengal, a pivotal market for Tropical Agro, contributes 10 per cent of the company’s sales turnover. This new venture reinforces the company’s dedication to supporting the agricultural sector in the region by providing user-friendly, economically viable, and resource-efficient products that cover the entire crop cycle—from seed treatment to post-harvest.

In line with Tropical Agro’s sustainability initiatives, the Kharagpur factory will focus on leveraging regional strengths by hiring predominantly local talent. This approach not only fosters economic growth in the community but also reinforces the company’s vision of empowering the community. The factory is expected to generate employment for approximately 300 individuals.

To meet increasing demand, Tropical Agro is also planning to establish a new factory in Gujarat and relocate its existing facility in Ambattur to a high-tech factory in Chayya, Tamil Nadu. These expansions aim to enhance production capabilities and target higher turnover.
