This national award underscores the university’s contribution to enhancing the seed sector through groundbreaking research and innovative technologies
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been awarded the Best Centre Award for its exceptional contributions to seed technology research under the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Seed (Crops). The prestigious award was presented by ML Jat, Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), during the inaugural session of the Virtual Annual Group Meet.
This national recognition underscores the university’s pivotal role in enhancing the seed sector through innovative research and technologies. Among the notable achievements that led to PAU receiving the prestigious award are the optimization of grading sieve aperture sizes for new crop varieties, enhanced crop establishment through advanced seed treatment techniques, the development of molecular markers for hybrid purity testing, revalidation of seed certification periods for field crops, and the standardization of diagnostic methods for detecting seed-borne pathogens.
In addition to these research advancements, PAU’s seed unit has played a crucial role in producing and supplying high-quality breeder, foundation, and certified seeds. These seeds have helped meet the needs of farmers and seed agencies across Punjab, significantly improving crop performance and boosting overall agricultural productivity.
