Assam to Undergo Green Shift with 500 Solar Water Pumps Under PM-KUSUM Scheme. Assam is poised for a major green energy transition with the rollout of 500 off-grid solar photovoltaic water pumping systems (SPWPS). The initiative, undertaken by KLK Ventures under the central government’s PM-KUSUM scheme, aims to reduce the state’s agricultural dependence on conventional power sources. The project is expected to drive sustainable farming practices and boost energy self-sufficiency in rural areas
In a significant push toward sustainable farming, Assam is set to benefit from an ambitious solar energy initiative supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. Under Component-B of the PM-KUSUM scheme, KLK Ventures is deploying 500 standalone solar photovoltaic water pumping systems (SPWPS) across the state, aimed at addressing long-standing challenges of irrigation and water access in regions with limited or no grid connectivity.
Ranging from 1 to 7.5 horsepower, these advanced solar-powered pumps are tailored to meet the diverse irrigation needs of farmers. By replacing diesel-powered systems, the initiative not only offers a cleaner and more consistent energy source but also reduces environmental impact and fuel dependency. The benefits of the project extend beyond agriculture, improving access to drinking water and supporting broader community water needs in remote and underserved areas.
More than just an infrastructure upgrade, the project marks a pivotal shift toward a sustainable and equitable future for rural Assam. It aligns with India’s broader climate goals by promoting renewable energy use and cutting carbon emissions. For farmers, the solar systems promise long-term economic gains through reduced operational costs and improved agricultural productivity.
Akshat Jain, CEO of KLK Ventures Private Limited, emphasized the company’s dedication to the initiative, stating, “We are proud to contribute to the PM-KUSUM scheme and provide sustainable energy solutions to farmers in Assam. This project is a major step towards enhancing agricultural efficiency and reducing carbon footprints in the region.”
The deployment of these systems is not only a move toward energy independence but also an investment in rural empowerment. By integrating green technology with grassroots development, KLK Ventures is helping reshape the future of Assam’s farming communities—promoting resilience, sustainability, and economic upliftment across the state.
