The company aims to expand and diversify its B2B brand, Fasal Fresh, procuring sustainably grown, fully traceable, and high-quality produce from its extensive network of growers covering 75,000+ acres of Farmland enabled by Fasal’s IoT-crop intelligence technology

TDK Corporation announced that TDK Ventures, Inc. has invested in India’s full-stack agriculture pioneer Fasal, in an INR 100cr round co-led by British International Investments to foster its innovative full-stack horticulture optimisation solution and bring it to market. Fasal’s solution has already been proven to improve crop yield and reduce operational costs at an affordable price to the individual farmer. This financing round provides further ammunition to Fasal in its mission to transform the Indian agriculture industry with its full-stack platform anchored on top of its patented IoT-crop intelligence technology and expand further to Southeast Asia markets.

Since the commercialisation of its technology, Fasal has worked with horticulture farmers spanning more than 75,000+ acres growing crops like grapes, pomegranates, bananas, apples, chilli, cardamom, etc. by enabling them to grow more and grow better with its patented IoT-crop intelligence technology. Fasal’s farmers have reduced irrigation water consumption by 82.8 billion litres, pesticide reduction by 127,426 kgs, curbed GHG emissions by 54,965 MT, and increased their yields and quality by up to 30 per cent with the help of technology. Fasal has gone deeper into the value chain by building technology to predict the exact harvesting time, yield, and tentative quality and is utilising this intelligence to bring this sustainably grown, traceable, and high-quality produce to the consumers via its B2B brand ‘Fasal Fresh’.

The company highlights that its technology platform has a traceable supply of over half a billion USD worth of produce, connecting seamlessly with demand across various consumption markets in the supply chain, ensuring 10x more efficient procurement thereby reducing wastages significantly. This technology platform empowers the company to synchronise supply with the most appropriate demand directly at the farm gate before the harvest itself.

The company is also gearing up to launch its ambitious product Tricolor in July

Best Agrolife Ltd. recently received three more major registrations. BAL informed that the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee (CIBRC) had granted the registrations for Technical Indigenous manufacturing of Diclosulam technical 94 per cent minimum, Boscalid technical 96 per cent minimum and Dimethomorph technical 95.5 per cent minimum to one of its wholly owned subsidiary Best Crop Science Pvt. Ltd.

Diclosulam is a broadleaf herbicide that is used to control weeds in soybean and peanut crops, while Boscalid is a foliar fungicide against a broad range of fungal pathogens in a wide range of crops, including vegetables and other crops. It inhibits spore germination and germ tube elongation and is also effective in all other stages of fungal development. Dimethomorph is a systemic fungicide that protects potato, tomato and grape crops from fungi in the water mould family, such as root rot, crown rot, late blight and downy mildew.

“These registrations are crucial for our company and will enable us to serve the farming community better. Along with producing the technicals, we also have plans to develop their highly sought-after formulation products, which will expand our product line further and help us maintain the goal of 30 per cent growth and 20 per cent EBITDA margin,” said Vimal Kumar, MD of BAL.

“For example, Metiram 44 per cent + Dimethomorph 9 per cent WG and Dimethomorph 12 per cent + Pyraclostrobin 6.7 per cent WG are the major formulations of Dimethomorph whereas Boscalid 25.25 + Pyraclostrobin 12.8 per cent WG is the prime Boscalid formulation. Since approvals for Metiram and Pyraclostrobin technicals are already in place with the company, we can now develop these products in-house in both technical and formulations segments,” Vimal Kumar added.

It is significant to mention that BAL recently became the first Indian agrochemical company to manufacture both AI and formulations of Pyroxasulfone after getting the CIB registration for the domestic manufacturing of Pyroxasulfone 85 per cent WG. The company is also set to launch their much-awaited fungicide Tricolor, a combination product of Trifloxystrobin 10 per cent + Difenoconazole 12.5 per cent + Sulphur 3 per cent Sc. It effectively controls several crop diseases like Sheath blight, Powdery Mildew, Scab, and Alternaria in Rice, Tomato, Grapes, Chilli, Wheat, Mango, and Apple.

By elevating produce with Instacart Ads, consumers can discover nutritious food as they build their daily and weekly grocery baskets

Instacart, the leading grocery technology company in North America, announced an industry-first online advertising capability, enabling produce brands to advertise fresh, weighted items – such as carrots, grapes, onions, oranges, sweet potatoes, and watermelons – from the produce department across the Instacart Marketplace.

During National Nutrition Month, Instacart is levelling the advertising playing field, making it possible for more product brands, farms, and agriculture boards to advertise on Instacart and reach more consumers. By elevating produce with Instacart Ads, consumers can discover nutritious food as they build their daily and weekly grocery baskets, search for a specific ingredient, and browse the digital aisles for inspiration.

“It’s essential that consumers have access to fresh, nutritious produce – whether they shop online or in-store,” said Ali Miller, Vice President of Ads Products at Instacart. “Online grocery offers a unique experience, helping brands deeply connect with and engage consumers as they explore new products or their usual staples across the digital aisles. With today’s launch, millions of consumers will discover more fresh and nutritious options as they shop on Instacart, levelling the playing field for producers and ensuring everything from fresh citrus to sweet potatoes are just as discoverable as packaged goods. I’m especially proud to celebrate these new capabilities during National Nutrition Month, as we do our part to help influence healthier eating habits.”

Instacart is the first company to enable this ad innovation for weighted items across grocery partners. Instacart developed algorithms to map these items back to brands and partners – addressing challenges like limited information from third-party sources and different coding systems across grocers. Instacart is addressing this complex industry challenge so more product brands can take advantage of advertising solutions and help consumers discover more nutritious foods.

“For 130 years, Sunkist Growers has been focused on delivering quality, fresh citrus to consumers. In fact, Sunkist’s first advertisement celebrated California’s ‘Orange Day’ back in 1908,” said Christina Ward, Senior Director at Sunkist Growers. “In recent years, shopper behaviours have dramatically changed—at Sunkist, we are all about meeting shoppers where they want to buy. On Instacart, we have a seamless ‘add-to-cart’ button to guide millions of people across the country towards our fresh Sunkist fruits, which are then delivered to their homes in as fast as an hour.”

Since 2020, Instacart has partnered with nearly 60 packaged produce advertisers to amplify their products and elevate the category. On average, Instacart’s packaged produce advertisers see a 30 per cent increase in sales1, meaning their ads influence more product purchases. Packaged produce advertisers can leverage the full Instacart advertising toolkit, including sponsored products, displays, shoppable videos, promotions, and impulse ads. With this latest enhancement to Instacart advertising and catalogue capabilities, produce brands can now amplify their full product set, including packaged and random-weight produce.

Superplum has now announced eco-friendly packaging with zero plastic for their farm-fresh grapes

Superplum, a Noida-based startup, is providing consumers with safe-to-eat grapes that are tested for pesticides. Farm practices and growing methods are analysed before harvesting, and grapes are then tested by NABL-accredited labs to ensure food safety.

Superplum is committed to promoting transparency with customers by allowing them to view these pesticide test reports by scanning the QR code on their packaging. This gives customers information about where their grapes were grown and which farmer produced them and even offers them the opportunity to reward the farmer with a bonus payment.

In an effort to improve sustainability, Superplum has now announced eco-friendly packaging with zero plastic for their farm-fresh grapes. With Indians consuming grapes in millions of plastic packs, this small change can help reduce our ecological footprint. Consumers will not only eat healthier, but they can also help contribute positively to the environment.

Superplum’s fresh grapes in their all-new eco-friendly packaging are now available online and in Delhi, NCR and Bengaluru stores.

The fresh produce industry in India has been long plagued by high levels of pesticides in grapes. While India has become one of the world’s largest table grape exporters by following global standards for pesticide residues, most Indian consumers have to consume grapes with high contaminant levels in their own country.

Fungicide comes as a respite, particularly for the production of grapes

Insecticides (India) Limited (IIL), one of India’s leading crop protection and nutrition companies, has launched an indigenously made fungicide called ‘Stunner’ to combat mainly Downy Mildew disease in grapes. This broad-spectrum fungicide comes as a respite particularly for the production of grapes as huge losses, in the form of mortality of the plant ranging from 20 per cent to 80 per cent, are incurred by the farmers due to this fungal disease. Downy Mildew disease plays havoc by significantly affecting the quality of grapes, IIL said.

“This is the first time that this technical and formulation is being manufactured in India. Owing to the requirement of a fungicide for successful grape cultivation, our farmers were mainly dependent on imported fungicide formulations to date. However, being a firm believer of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, we took this step, and here we are with Stunner in hand for the first time in India. Stunner is an effective fungicide for Downy Mildew disease in grapes,” informed, Rajesh Aggarwal, Managing Director, Insecticides (India).
