The PM also inaugurated the Agri Startup Conclave and Exhibition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates a two-day event titled “PM Kisan Samman Sammelan 2022 at Mela Ground, IARI, Pusa, New Delhi. On this occasion, Modi released Rs 16,000 crore under the PM-KISAN flagship scheme as 12th instalment through Direct Benefit Transfer. He also inaugurated the Agri Startup Conclave and Exhibition. 

Under the scheme, eligible farmer families are provided a benefit of Rs 6000 per year in three equal instalments of Rs 2000 each, every four months. The benefit is then transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer mode, using modern digital technology.

Along with that, he also inaugurated 600 PM Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PM-KSK) of Union Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers and will launch Bharat Urea Bags, India’s biggest move in fertilisers-One Nation One Fertiliser Scheme for Farmers.

On this occasion, Modi addressed crores of farmers, Agri Start-ups, Researchers, Policymakers, Bankers and other stakeholders. The event brought farmers and Agri startups on same platform. Over one crore farmers virtually joined this event.

Since the launch of this path breaking scheme, the scheme has crossed many milestones and has received accolades from several quarters for its scale, transparency and seamless transfer of funds directly to the accounts of eligible farmers.

The inauguration of the Garden of Friendship takes place which represents the shared commitment between the three entities to promote sustainability and green spaces. Participants of this event included the Honourable Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Parliament of India, equivalent of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico, H E Om Birla who is leading an Indian Parliamentary Delegation on an official visit to Mexico and Dip. Sergio Gutierrez Luna- President of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies who jointly inaugurated the garden.

UPL was responsible for establishing the Organic Friendship Garden – India and Mexico, providing a range of sustainable bio solutions and technologies from its Natural Plant Protection (NPP) business unit’s portfolio which supports soil health, enable water efficiency, and help the garden’s plants and biodiversity to thrive. In India, UPL has undertaken drive towards afforestation and rehabilitation of the degraded forest and common lands. It works on Sapling to Forestry model by involving local stakeholders towards increasing the forest area. Community is encouraged and trained on the upkeep of these forests and amenities which is provided by UPL.

First India Animal Health Summit 2022 was held at NASC Complex, New Delhi on July 6, 2022

Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying said that there is need to strengthen the cooperative movement in the livestock sector. While inaugurating first India Animal Health Summit 2022, he called for greater use of Ayurveda for ensuring better animal health.

First India Animal Health Summit 2022 was held at NASC Complex, New Delhi on July 6, 2022, understanding the significance of animal health towards the broader objective of the country’s food and nutrition security, rural incomes and prosperity and overall economic development.

Rupala was the chief guest at the inaugural function of ‘India Animal Health Summit 2022’ organised by Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) and the Agriculture Today Group. He said that by ensuring good animal health, veterinarians are playing a very significant role.

Speaking on the occasion, Atul Chaturvedi, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying said that animal health is a very major component of One Health and there is need to ensure even more respect for veterinarians in the community at large. He said that the department is taking initiatives to address animal pandemic preparedness.

The two-day event will host a plethora of panel discussions ranging from topics such as Animal Health policy initiatives to Business environment & investment opportunities in the Animal Health sector.

The 12th BRICS Agriculture Ministers Meeting was recently held virtually on June 9, 2022. The meeting was attended by the Ministers for Agriculture of China, South Africa, Brazil, Russia and India.

The Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shobha Karandlaje, participated in the meeting.  The Minister highlighted various steps and initiatives undertaken by the Government of India in the field of agriculture and for welfare of the farmers viz. PM KISAN, PM FASAL BIMA YOJANA, Soil Health Cards, Natural Farming, formation and promotion of FPOs etc. 

Shobha Karandlaje emphasised on India’s resolve to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals of ending hunger and step up production and productivity of agriculture through sustainable use of natural resources.

The Minister mentioned the recent initiatives taken by the Ministry of Agriculture for increasing the use of digital technologies in agriculture like Agri-stack and India Digital Ecosystem for Agriculture (IDEA).

The Minister highlighted the National Mission on Food & Nutrition with focus on development of nutri-cereals and bio-fortified varieties of crops and also highlighted importance of millets in food and nutrition security and climate resilience.

Around 76 farmers were distributed the Poultry birds, night shelter, feeder, water and medicine kits during the occasion.

The ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad has recently organised the “Backyard Poultry Distribution Programme” at Heerapur Village of Adilabad District, Telangana under the Development Action Plan for Scheduled Tribes.  

Delivering the address, Soyam Babu Rao, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) highlighted the importance of poultry and livestock sector in making agriculture profitable. He also emphasised on the vision of the Prime Minister for doubling the farmers’ income and the role of poultry towards achieving the desired goal.

Dr RN Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad outlined the ICAR-DPR’s role in livelihood and income generation through backyard poultry in the country.

The participants were provided with the on-farm demonstration and training on scientific rearing of poultry.

Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar said that under the leadership of PM Modi, the Government wants to make India self-reliant in the field of palm oil.

The National Mission on Edible Oil- Oil Palm Business Summit for states other than North Eastern States has been inaugurated by the Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar, in Hyderabad on December 28, 2021. Aiming to give wide spread information on newly launched centrally sponsored scheme on edible oils, the Government is organising business summits across the country. This is the second such summit of the Mission, the first was held in Guwahati for North Eastern states in early October this year.

Addressing the Business Summit, the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar assured all the state governments that there will be no shortage of resources for the successful implementation of the National Mission on Edible Oil – Oil Palm. Tomar said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the Government wants to make India self-reliant in the field of palm oil.

Appreciating the efforts made by the Government of Telangana to increase palm oil production, Tomar said that he sees Telangana as an emerging leader in oil palm production.

Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Kailash Choudhary said “At present, we have to import edible oil. Today’s business summit will prove to be important to find a solution to this import.” Expressing his confidence in Mission, he said that with the help of scientists’ research, farmers’ hard work and the government’s support, this mission will achieve its target and will make a significant contribution in making India self-reliant. In order to boost the edible oils’ production, remunerative prices and assured procurement of oilseed crops is being done by the Government, he added.

Distribution of registration certificates for the Farmer Producing Organisations (FPOs) were also done on the occasion.

Experts discuss ways to increase the income of fish farmers

On the third day of 12th Agrovision Summit, a conference was held on the scope of inland fisheries in the Vidarbha region. The event started with the lamp lighting ceremony by Dr Suvarna Chandrappagari, Chief Executive, National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Tage Taki, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Dairy Development, Fisheries, Arunachal Pradesh; Lalchand Kataria, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Dr CD Mayee, Chairman – Advisory Council Agrovision, Ex-Chairman – ASRB (ICAR), Dr Ashish Paturkar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Nagpur and Ravi Boratkar, MD, MM Activ Sci-Tech Communications, Publisher, MMA publications and Chairperson, Agrovision Foundation among other dignitaries.

Mayee started the conference by mentioning the scope of inland fisheries in the Vidarbha region as there are lot of water holds in the region. He stated that the conference will help farmers in the region to focus on new techniques and come with innovation in aquaculture.

Paturkar in his speech gave an idea about fishery potential in Bhandara, Gondia and Gadchiroli among other regions, which has big ponds. He also mentioned Google mapping and how it has helped to map the entire Vidarbha region for fish cultivation. Talking about the challenges, he said that many regions lack proper fishing techniques and urged stakeholders, ministry and farmers to work in an organised way for the upliftment of the sector. He emphasised maximum utilisation of water bodies, seed production in sufficient quantities, better logistic facilities, procuring good sources and cheaper fish feed, fish production and processing.

Exports of processed fish products is what Paturkar mentioned during the conference. Lastly, he talked about how value addition and collaboration with private players will help fish farmers for a better future.

Dr Chandrappagari in her speech gave an overview of how despite being a drought-prone region things can turn for better by adopting sustainable measures. Mentioning that Vidarbha has a huge potential in the fisheries sector, she urged farmers and stakeholders to adopt certain measures like increasing productivity, procuring quality seeds, following good management practices and upgrading marketing infrastructure. Focus on river ranching, storage facilities, transportation and logistics and adoption of schemes in the Vidarbha region are some of the measures mentioned by Dr Chandrappagari.

Kataria talked about prawn cultivation in Churu district and how the Government of Rajasthan are taking various initiatives to encourage farmers in fish farming and adopt various sustainable measures viz rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation etc.

Taki in his speech thanked the Agrovision team for inviting him where his state will be hugely benefitted from the technologies being showcased at the event. He said, “Arunachal being a hilly terrain, there are a lot of challenges in the region.” He particularly mentioned the right way to implement techniques for sustainable fish farming, balanced use of water bodies and urged the stakeholders for easy earning methods for farmers. Besides, he talked about better logistic facilities and technologies to enhance fish feed. He particularly mentioned certain fish species on the verge of extinction despite less pollution in the state.

Lastly, he urged farmers to take up responsibilities and form self-help groups to sustain themselves in the long run.

The dairy sector and its upliftment was the main focus on day two of 12th Agrovision. The seminar was inaugurated with a lamp lighting ceremony by Nitin Gadkari, Chief Patron, Agrovision, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, in the presence of Sunil Chhatrapal Kedar, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Maharashtra; Meenesh C Shah, Chairman, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Dr Ashish Paturkar, Vice Chancellor, Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Nagpur along with Ravi Boratkar, MD, MM Activ Sci-Tech Communications, Publisher, MMA publications and Chairperson, Agrovision Foundation and Dr CD Mayee, Chairman-Advisory Council Agrovision, Ex-Chairman- ASRB (ICAR).

The event started with Gadkari talking about bringing in a milk revolution in the Vidarbha region using techniques that can be sustainable for farmers in the long run.

This was followed by a speech by Shah giving a glance about what role in NDDB is playing to improve the dairy sector in Vidarbha and adjoining areas. He said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a huge toll on the dairy sector; however, the industry was quick to bounce back as there was a huge demand for milk-related products.”

He recalled the government initiatives for the upliftment of the dairy sector in Marathwada and Vidarbha and procurement of milk from various villages in the region. He also mentioned how farmers are being benefitted from the money being transferred to the bank accounts.

Shah took notice of the reproductive health of cattle, livestock health, upgrading of infrastructure related to gene modification, semen analysis, IVF, training being provided by NDDB to farmers, animal nutrition and what role NDDB is playing in this regard. He talked about conserving green fodder in the form of silage to ensure a regular supply of quality fodder to bovines, especially during the lean season and farmers are being trained for the same.

A special mention of women dairy farmers and their increased participation was made by the NDDB chairman.

Kedar in his speech emphasised two major things, marketing of milk-based products and processing of milk. He informed the audience about how the Govt of Maharashtra ensured that balancing the demand-supply gap helped the dairy sector during COVID. His talk revolved around new technologies being promoted to help dairy farmers, to take the dairy industry in the Vidarbha region to newer heights.
