Strategic export milestone reinforces India’s leadership in fortified food technology, global nutrition security, and value-added agricultural trade
Vi Exports India Pvt Ltd has successfully shipped a consignment of 7,000 metric tonnes of Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK) to Madagascar, marking a significant step in strengthening global access to nutrient-enriched staple foods. The consignment was officially flagged off on February 19, 2026, from Kandla Port by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), highlighting India’s growing role in advancing global food and nutrition security.
The African continent continues to face widespread micronutrient deficiencies, with staple foods such as rice playing a critical role in daily nutrition. The adoption of Fortified Rice Kernels has emerged as a scalable and science-backed solution to address nutritional gaps across large populations. Fortified rice technology enables the integration of essential micronutrients into everyday dietary staples, supporting public health initiatives and improving long-term nutritional outcomes across emerging markets.
This shipment represents a major milestone in India’s expanding leadership in value-added agricultural exports. Industry stakeholders have emphasized that initiatives such as this strengthen the country’s commitment to self-reliant agriculture while simultaneously enhancing global food system resilience. The export of fortified agricultural products reflects the convergence of agricultural productivity, food science innovation, and international development cooperation.
Representatives from Vi Exports India Pvt Ltd stated that the company remains committed to supporting global nutrition programs through high-quality fortified food exports. The company’s FRK technology and quality control systems are designed to meet stringent international standards while ensuring consistent micronutrient delivery in large-scale public distribution programs.
The shipment also supports India’s broader vision of strengthening farmer prosperity by expanding demand for value-added agricultural commodities. By creating global markets for fortified food products, the initiative helps increase income opportunities across agricultural supply chains while promoting sustainable trade growth.
This development reinforces India’s position as a global hub for nutrition technology-enabled agricultural exports and demonstrates the country’s capacity to combine agricultural scale with advanced food processing innovation.
