Syngenta expands Pune Global Capability Center to accelerate AI-led innovation

Expanded GCC strengthens digital transformation, talent development and India’s role in Syngenta’s global agri-tech strategy

Global agriculture major Syngenta has announced a significant expansion of its Global Capability Center (GCC) in Pune, reinforcing its commitment to artificial intelligence, data-driven innovation, and digital transformation across its worldwide operations.

The expanded Pune GCC, which currently employs over 1,100 professionals, plays a critical role in supporting global finance, IT, digital functions, and Syngenta’s AMEA (Asia, Middle East & Africa) regional operations. With the latest expansion, the center further strengthens its position as a strategic hub within Syngenta’s global technology and business ecosystem.

Over the years, the Pune GCC has evolved beyond a traditional shared services model into a key driver of innovation, with a strong focus on AI, advanced analytics, and data science. These capabilities are central to Syngenta’s efforts to enhance operational efficiency, accelerate decision-making, and develop next-generation digital solutions for agriculture.

Building Global Careers and Capabilities

The expansion also underscores Syngenta’s emphasis on talent development and career progression. The Pune center offers employees exposure to global work environments, cross-functional responsibilities, and structured career pathways, positioning it as a launchpad for leadership and specialist roles within the organization.

As part of its digital transformation agenda, Syngenta is increasingly deploying AI-powered solutions across functions, enabling faster innovation cycles and more agile operations—capabilities that are critical in a sector facing rising climate, productivity, and food security challenges.

Strengthening India’s Role in Global Agri-Tech

The milestone marks over a decade of Syngenta’s presence in Pune and highlights the city’s growing importance as a global capability and innovation hub within India’s agricultural technology landscape. The expansion aligns with Syngenta’s broader vision of leveraging technology to help farmers worldwide make more efficient and sustainable use of natural resources.

“Syngenta GCC serves as a strategic engine for innovation and talent development, strengthening India’s contribution to Syngenta’s global operations while creating valuable employment opportunities in the agriculture sector,” said Abhishek Agarwal, Head, Syngenta Global Capability Center Pvt Ltd.

Echoing this vision, Salil Bongale, Head of ITD Pune Center & Enterprise Integration, Syngenta Global Capability Center Pvt Ltd, added: “Technology and Artificial Intelligence have the potential to revolutionize agriculture. Syngenta is committed to building innovative technology solutions that help farmers across the world.”

Driving the Future of Sustainable Agriculture

As a leading global agriculture company, Syngenta remains focused on improving food security by enabling farmers to produce more while using resources more efficiently and sustainably. The expansion of its Pune GCC signals the company’s belief that digital innovation, AI, and global talent networks will be central to shaping the future of agriculture.

With this move, Syngenta not only deepens its digital capabilities but also reinforces India’s strategic role in advancing global agri-tech innovation—at the intersection of technology, sustainability, and food systems transformation.
