A high-level delegation from Arunachal Pradesh, led by Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Gabriel D. Wangsu, visited the ICAR–Central Sheep & Wool Research Institute (CSWRI) in Avikanagar to explore collaboration opportunities aimed at enhancing sheep and goat farming in the state. The visit focused on understanding modern breeding practices, innovative technologies, and sustainable models for small ruminant production.
CSWRI, a national leader in sheep and rabbit research, has played a pivotal role in improving productivity, profitability, and resilience in small ruminant husbandry across diverse agro-climatic zones in India. The institute’s breed improvement programs, fodder management systems, and field-oriented training initiatives have been widely adopted by farmers seeking to enhance livestock performance.
During the visit, Arunachal Pradesh officials toured CSWRI’s research facilities, laboratories, and livestock units, gaining insight into scientific processes, breeding techniques, and sustainable animal husbandry practices. Detailed discussions were held on potential collaboration areas, including breed selection suited to Arunachal Pradesh’s unique climatic conditions, advanced fodder management solutions, and capacity-building programs for field staff and farmers.
The delegation also reviewed opportunities to integrate CSWRI’s research innovations into practical models that could be implemented across Arunachal Pradesh. Plans were outlined to deputize state officers to the institute for specialized training and hands-on exposure to cutting-edge practices in small ruminant management.
The visit marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between Arunachal Pradesh and CSWRI, aimed at transforming the state’s sheep and goat rearing sector through science-driven solutions, modern breeding technologies, and sustainable production systems.
