Major transformation in agricultural education system envisaged
Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, on August 11, 2020, launched ICAR’s data recovery centre ’Krishi Megh’ (National Agricultural Research & Education System -Cloud Infrastructure and Services) along with the KVC ALUNET (Krishi Vishwavidyalaya Chhatr Alumni Network) and Online Accreditation System for Higher Agricultural Educational Institutions (HEI).
Speaking during the virtual launch, he said that National Agricultural Higher Education Project which is funded by the Government of India and World Bank is designed for strengthening the national agricultural education system in the country. Its larger objective is to provide more relevant and high-quality education to the agricultural university students which are in line with the New Education Policy – 2020.
He envisaged Krishi Megh as a step forward towards digital agriculture of New India which will help to save and preserve important research-based data in digitized form to enable its access from anywhere. Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, ICAR’s data recovery centre (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) stressed on maximizing the use of internet technology / digitalization.
He highlighted the main features of the Krishi Megh which is equipped with the latest AI / Deep learning software and tools kits for building and deploying deep learning based applications through image analysis, disease identification in livestock.
