On the occasion of World Bee Day the Honey Testing Labs were virtually inaugurated by Narendra Singh Tomar, Agriculture Minister. He inaugurated Regional Testing labs- IIHR, Bengaluru, Karnataka, Regional Testing lab, IARI, Pusa New Delhi, Mini Honey Testing Lab SKUAST Kashmir at KVK, Kupwara, J&K, Mini Honey Testing Lab, KVK, Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, Mini Honey Testing Lab, Banaskantha District Co-op. Milk Prod. Uni. Ltd. Palanpur, Gujarat, Mini Honey Testing Lab, College of Agriculture, Pashighat, Arunachal Pradesh; Mini Honey Testing Lab, NIFTEM, Sonipat, Haryana; Bee Disease Diagnostic Centre, FCRI, Hyderabad, Telangana.

During the World Bee Day celebration, an Exhibition with over 100 stalls was set up by Beekeepers, processors and different stakeholders of the beekeeping sector to showcase the diverse varieties of the honey bee and different products in the beekeeping sector. More than 1000 farmers, beekeepers, processors, entrepreneurs and all stakeholders associated with honey production attended the programme.

Diversified agro-climatic conditions of India provide great potential for beekeeping/ honey production. India is producing about 1,33,200 Metric Tonnes (MTs) of Honey as per 2021-22- 3rd Advanced Estimate. India has exported 74413 MT of Natural Honey to the world worth Rs. 1221 crore ($ 164.835 million) during 2020-21. The scientific technology being adopted for increasing production and testing of honey by maintaining quality standards for national and international markets and promoting the production of other beehive products viz.; bee pollen, bees wax, royal jelly, propolis & bee venom. This has facilitated the beekeepers to increase their income and increased demand for honey and beehive products both in the domestic and international markets.

The National Workshop of Bamboo Sector Development and Bamboo Exhibition aims to bring together key stakeholders from the bamboo industry, including policymakers, researchers, industry experts

Dr Abhilaksh Likhi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, inaugurated the Bamboo Exhibition at the National Workshop on Bamboo Sector Development in New Delhi. The Additional Secretary, along with Joint Secretary (Horticulture), Priya Ranjan and Horticulture Commissioner, Dr Prabhat Kumar, visited all 58 stalls at the event, interacting with State Bamboo Mission officials, State Department officials, artisans, bamboo experts and entrepreneurs.

The exhibition saw participation from State Bamboo Missions including Tripura, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim. Institutes like Bamboo and Cane Development Institute, Phoenix Foundation, Northeast Cane and Bamboo Development Council, Foundation of MSME Clusters along with startups and new age companies like Epitome (Mutha Industries), BioCraftBiomize, Bamboo India, ESES Biowealth Pvt Limited, Corner Art Store and organisations like Maharashtra Bamboo Board, Handicraft Sectorial Council and Bamboo FPOs under NAFED also participated in the event.

The National Workshop of Bamboo Sector Development and Bamboo Exhibition aims to bring together key stakeholders from the bamboo industry, including policymakers, researchers, industry experts, institutes and organisations to discuss the current state of the bamboo sector in India and identify ways to promote its growth and development.

The event is being organised by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Invest India and the Kerala State Bamboo Mission in New Delhi.

Apple Unnati is part of Coca-Cola India’s Fruit Circular Economy Initiative, which extends to fruit farmers across 12 states & 6 fruit varieties in India.

Coca-Cola India along with Indo-Dutch Horticulture Technologies today hosted a felicitation ceremony in Uttarakhand to applaud and recognize local farmers from the state. Eminent dignitaries Ganesh Joshi, Agriculture Minister, Uttarakhand, along with Shailesh Bhagoli, Secretary, Agriculture, Uttarakhand, graced the ceremony with their presence.

20 farmers were recognized for the exemplary productivity benchmarks they have been able to achieve by adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) in apple farming. It has led to a 5X increase in their productivity, empowering them to enhance their incomes and uplift their livelihoods. Introduced to them by Coca-Cola’s Project ‘Unnati-Apple’, in collaboration with Indo-Dutch Horticulture Technologies, the aim is to increase apple productivity in India, especially in the State of Uttarakhand, by bringing global best practices primarily focusing on ultra-high-density plantation (UHDP), leading to a substantial increase in quality, productivity, and profitability per unit of land, hence significantly increasing farmers income and acting as a catalyst to help India in achieving self-sufficiency in apple production.

Project Apple Unnati, launched in 2018 under the flagship sustainable agriculture program of Coca-Cola in India – Fruit Circular Economy, aimed to aid the Indian agri-ecosystem by enhancing farming efficiency, strengthening forward linkages, and building food-processing capacity in the country, addressing challenges of low farm productivity, poor technology adoption and fruit wastage in the horticulture sector. Coca-Cola recognizes farmers to be its true suppliers for key ingredients and values the partnership by focusing on their overall well-being. Along with partners, the company has been working with fruit farmers since 2011, under the flagship project – Unnati, which currently covers 6 fruits – Mango, Apple, Orange, Grapes and Litchi and priority commodities like sugarcane. The program has benefitted 3.5 Lakh farmers so far.

MoA signed between ICAR Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Uttarakhand with the Das and Kumars, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and the ICAR-Agrinnovate, New Delhi

A Tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed by ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Uttarakhand with the Das and Kumars, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and the ICAR-Agrinnovate, New Delhi for the Technology Transfer of ‘Captive Maturation and Multiple Breeding of Golden Mahseer’ in Bhimtal.

The Chief Guest Dr Rajendra Singh handed-over the MoA to the Licensee, Harsh Aggarwal. The agreement will be valid for a period of seven Years.

Dr Pramod Kumar Pandey, Director, ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal stated that the technology encompasses an efficient indoor system and method for the Year-round seed production of the endangered Golden Mahseer. It will facilitate its conservation and offer the livelihood opportunities through the sports fishery, ecotourism and conservation aquaculture.

The technology developed by Dr MS Akhtar, Senior Scientist, ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal and his team has the prospects of reversing the population status of the Golden Mahseer from ‘Endangered’ to ‘Abundance’ in the near future.

The MoA is aimed to facilitate the close cooperation among the three parties and create a small business platform for Mahseer Conservation and fish-based ecotourism.

Women in Uttarakhand will be trained in beekeeping for MadhuShakti project

FMC India has collaborated with Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GB Pant University) to develop entrepreneurship among rural women through beekeeping. The collaboration will help to generate sustainable income for their families and raise their living standard.

The project named MadhuShakti is a first-of-its-kind innovative sustainable development initiative in India. The three-year project is planned for the rural area of Uttarakhand.

Rural women from Sitarganj, Kotabagh, and the towns of Almora and Ranikhet will be trained in beekeeping. The produce will be procured by Honey Bee Research and Training Centre (HBRTC). The project will also closely monitor pollinator behaviour, generating a wealth of scientific knowledge that will benefit beekeepers across the country.

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Dehradun, Uttarakhand signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

The MoU is aimed at promoting Inter-Institutional Collaborative Research and academic engagements in the areas of common causes. Dr M Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun and Prof (Dr) Sangeeta Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, CCSU, Meerut signed the MoU on the behalf of their respective organisations.

Dr Madhu outlined the main objective of the MoU to stimulate and facilitate collaboration and promote the mutually interested common programmes that help advance the interests of scientific studies and societal development. He stressed that the national and international level collaborative programmes and engagements for enhanced outreach and awareness of technological outcomes and success stories would be aimed through the MoU.

Dr Sangeeta Shukla urged for active collaborations in the diverse fields of science and technologies, especially, between the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Agriculture of the CCSU, Meerut and ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun.

The joint venture will furnish the best-of-breed apples in as many as five different varieties in the next three years for apple aficionados in India

This accord will establish the new joint venture, IG-EnginTarim, as one of the prime planters of apple varieties in India. The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Government of India has launched a pilot project in the state of Uttarakhand to implement the One Health Framework by One Health Support Unit. The key objective of the unit is to develop a national One Health roadmap based on the learnings of the pilot project implementation.

The inter-ministerial One Health committee under the chairmanship of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India has been established to lead the implementation of the One Health Support Unit. A Project Steering Committee (PSC) is constituted under the chairmanship of Secretary (AHD), GoI involving representatives from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, ICAR, civil societies, international development organisations and field practitioners.

Based on the recommendations of PSC, state and district level one health committees need to be constituted by involving competent authorities from health, animal husbandry and environment ministries. Some of the key activities to be undertaken as part of the pilot project include institutionalising the mechanism for the data collection on disease outbreaks, prevalence, management, and development of targeted surveillance plan, integrating the network of laboratories, developing and implementing communication strategy across sectors and integration of the data with the digital architecture of the National Digital Livestock Mission.

The pilot project in Uttarakhand was launched by Atul Chaturvedi, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India in the presence of Dr Praveen Malik, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Government of India, Alkesh Wadhwani, Director, Poverty Alleviation Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation India, Dr R Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Uttarakhand, Shri Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Secretary, Department of Medical, Health and Family Welfare Government of Uttarakhand, Ranjan Kumar Mishra, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Wildlife Uttarakhand Forest Department, Government of Uttarakhand and Dr Prem Kumar, Director, Department of Animal Husbandry Government of Uttarakhand among other key stakeholders.

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Dehradun, Uttarakhand organised the meeting to extend the MoU with the Eco-Task Force (127 Infantry Battalion (TA) Ecological, Garhwal Rifles Garhi Cantonment, Dehradun, Uttarakhand).

The meeting was held between Dr M Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun and Col Rohit Srivastav, Commanding Officer, ETF, Dehradun. The MoU has been mutually agreed to be extended for the next five years with an additional objective of jointly developing a Model Village in Jounsar Bhabar Area of Uttarakhand.

Both the organisations underwent the collaboration during 2016 that was again reshaped during 2019 for the period of two years ending in December 2021.
