Redwood Specialty is a leading ingredient supplier of chickpeas, peas, lentils, and other products in the ‘Better for You’ food and premium pet food markets

The Redwood Group, LLC (Redwood) announced it has entered into an agreement to operate and acquire a pulse processing, storage, and transloading facility in Stanford, Montana to help facilitate the rapid growth of its Specialty Products Division (Redwood Specialty).

Redwood Specialty is a leading ingredient supplier of chickpeas, peas, lentils, and other products in the ‘Better for You’ food and premium pet food markets. The Stanford facility will augment Redwood’s flagship pulse processing facility in Chester, Montana and will greatly expand its grower base to meet the increasing demand of its customers, as well as provide the Montana farmers with additional growing options and access to end-use markets. Both Montana facilities are operated by Stricks Ag, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Redwood.

“We are thrilled to add Stanford to the Stricks Ag family of processing plants,” said Mike Kincaid, Redwood president. “The increased capacity allows us to continue meeting our customers’ ever-growing ingredient needs. Additionally, we look forward to partnering with local farmers to help them confidently diversify their growing programs and consistently incorporate these very important pulse crops into their rotation. We provide access to markets that will ensure those sustainable practices benefit the farmer’s bottom line as well as the land.”

This facility is instrumental in Redwood’s regenerative farming initiatives it is currently developing with some of its end-use food customers.

“Soil health initiatives continue to be a focal point of what end-use customers and CPG brands are requesting,” said Mark Obrist, Redwood Specialty’s Managing Director. “The Stanford facility provides Redwood with the ability to segregate product, process high quality, Montana-grown raw materials, and identity-preserve the finished goods with full traceability to our growers’ farms and fields through Redwood’s regenerative ag program and food safety protocols. This is a major area of focus for Redwood and its growing partners going forward.”

The Redwood Group, LLC is an employee-owned diversified supply chain and ingredient company based in Mission, KS. For over a decade, Redwood has offered customised supply chain solutions for food and feed markets around the world. Its Specialty Division, Redwood Specialty, has a deep expertise and leadership position in pulse crop distribution and has earned the trust of many of the largest food and pet food companies in North America by offering innovative supply solutions and providing world-class service, quality assurance, logistics support and R&D capabilities.

Requests from several countries for importing wheat from India are being processed at the government level

M Angamuthu, Chairman, APEDA, recently stated that the government’s move to restrict wheat exports last month has been primarily focussed on meeting domestic demand while protecting the farmers’ income.

Angamuthu said India has kept its wheat export options open for those developing countries to meet their food security needs after restriction on shipment of wheat was announced last month. Requests from several countries for importing wheat from India are being processed at the government level.

This year, wheat farmers have been immensely benefited in terms of procurement by the government’s agencies at Minimum Support Price (MSP) while a significant chunk of commodity has been sold to private trade at much above MSP.

The decision to ban wheat export was taken to ensure the availability of wheat for the domestic supply chain. Sudden spurt in exports in April created concern over domestic price stability and supply that prompted the government to take the ‘regulatory’ measure like restricting wheat export.

Keeping the interest of farmers as the top priority, the government allowed them to sell their wheat at higher prices at above MSP to private traders across several mandis besides procuring wheat at MSP across all the key grain growing states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The Government had regulated wheat export from May 13, 2022 which changed the market dynamics, preventing speculative wheat trading and cooled down the inflationary trend of the price of wheat and products made out of it in the domestic market.

Decco’s new Decco DMN Aerosol is the latest product to be added to its Fresh Defense portfolio for stored potatoes

Decco US Post-Harvest, the post-harvest affiliate of UPL, has announced the launch of Decco DMN Aerosol at the 2022 Potato Expo in Anaheim. Decco adds the new EPA-registered product to its growing potato storage portfolio available across North America.

Decco DMN Aerosol, as part of an overall potato storage programme, will greatly reduce sprouting and disease issues while also enhancing flesh strength, colour, and reducing bruising or soft spots while in storage. The active ingredient in Decco DMN Aerosol, 1,4-Dimethylnaphthalene, is a conventional solution used in potato storage programmes throughout the industry.

Decco DMN Aerosol helps reduce load rejection by working in conjunction with an overall potato storage programme. Decco’s new Decco DMN Aerosol is the latest product to be added to its Fresh Defense portfolio for stored potatoes.

The overall portfolio of Fresh Defense products, including Decco DMN Aerosol, creates many opportunities for Decco and parent company UPL to provide a better customer experience for the potato grower, storage applicator and processor. This week, Decco is partnering with UPL at the 2022 Potato Expo in Anaheim to showcase both Fresh Defense and Decco DMN Aerosol.

“The aim for Decco is to collaborate closely with our crop colleagues at UPL,” said Boomer Cardinale, US Marketing Director for Decco. “Under our OpenAg mission, we can truly offer farm to fork solutions across the value chain. The addition of Decco DMN Aerosol and our other Fresh Defense storage products will greatly complement the UPL potato programs offered in pre-harvest.”

Decco, in conjunction with UPL, will be exhibiting at the 2022 Potato Expo at booth #745 from January 5 to 6, 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Centre in California.
