The aim of this festival is to raise awareness and create a market for millets and millets-based products among the ASEAN Member states

The Indian Mission to ASEAN in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare is organising the ASEAN-India Millet Festival 2023, in Indonesia. The inaugural session of the festival took place in the Kota Kasablanka Mall, a prominent shopping destination in South Jakarta, Indonesia. A Millet-centric exhibition is being held as part of the festival featuring participation from Millet-based FPOs, start-ups and Indian chefs.

Aligned with the International Year of Millets (IYM) celebrations, an aim of this festival is to raise awareness and create a market for millets and millets-based products among the ASEAN Member states i.e. Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. During the festival, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare is leading a delegation from India, representing a diverse set of professionals engaged in the Indian millet ecosystem, including chefs, start-ups, representatives from Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), industry leaders, state officials and more.

Additional Secretary at DA&FW and Head of the Indian Delegation Dr Maninder Kaur Dwivedi provided valuable insights into millet cultivation, processing and the business potential of these ancient grains. Joint Secretary (Crops) at DA&FW Shubha Thakur showcased India’s leading role in celebrating the International Year of Millets 2023 and the Indian government’s initiatives to encourage the adoption of millets through a captivating video, setting the stage for insightful panel discussions. Additionally, Deputy Head of BPN Dr Andriko Noto Susanto further highlighted the remarkable prospects of millet cultivation and its role in diversifying the South Asian food basket.

The exhibition aims to foster collaboration between ASEAN countries, celebrate cultural and culinary diversity and promote sustainable millet practices for a healthier future. The exhibition will also feature five Indian FPOs, namely Citi Block FPC, Jewargi Taluka Millets FPC, Bhumitrajalalpur, Vaam Agro, and Lambasingi Tribal Products FPC, and two start-ups namely Taru Naturals and Sattva Millets and Food Products (Mibbles) exhibiting unique millet-added products such as millet cookies, namkeen, khakhra, cakes, and more.

According to the WEF, “Global Innovators are among the most impactful and innovative start-ups in the world. They are actively engaged in the Forum’s efforts to advance global collaboration across the forum’s 10 Centres serving to benefit global society.”

Enko continues to answer the call for solutions to aid in more sustainable increases in food production by addressing key pests and diseases devastating yields for farmers globally. Their innovative use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and drug discovery approaches allows for the design of novel, safe and effective crop protection, and comes at a time when many regions of the world are struggling to produce sufficient food for their people. As part of this new Forum engagement, Enko will engage alongside a community of innovators coordinated by WEF to craft a sustainable future that will positively impact food security around the world.

Gramik, the country’s first peer agri-commerce platform, was recently recognised by the government of Uttar Pradesh among the top 10 start-ups in the province, dedicated to making a difference in the agricultural sector, during a recently held Global Investors Summit 2023 in Lucknow. 

The three-day event kicked off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed to fortify Uttar Pradesh as an attractive investment destination amongst stakeholders.

The summit proved to be a great platform for start-ups to present their vision and growth stories to several renowned investors and government officials. Gramik, as one of the major players in the agri-space, received appreciation and support from both investors and government officials for its promising revenue model and growth prospects.

MCCIA will help curate the list of potential investee start-ups and intend to make the first investment before the end of December 2022.

Pune based Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) has launched an initiative to support Agri-tech start-ups which provide technology-based solutions to various agriculture-related problems. The chief guest for the event was the prominent Indian Cricket Player, Ajinkya Rahane, who has a keen interest in the agriculture sector and start-ups. He would be playing a key role in this initiative. Ajinkya Rahane and associates will make seed investments in some of the Agri-tech start-ups. Towards this, they will begin with a fund of Rs 1 crore. They hope to inspire more such investors to come forward and grow the size of the fund over the next few months and years and further enhance the impact.

(MCCIA) will help curate the list of potential investee start-ups. They intend to make the first investment before the end of December 2022 and three of them before the end of this financial year. As a part of its mission to support and strengthen the agriculture sector in Maharashtra, the (MCCIA), Pune has been actively working with start-ups and small-scale entrepreneurs in the sector to help them grow.

 Fifty-one Agri-Tech Startups participated in this initiative. The attendees also included founders of other (non-Agri-tech) start-ups, corporate professionals, business owners and MCCIA office bearers.
