The company plans to invest Rs 300 crore over the next seven years to manufacture drones, establish training centres, and build a network of trained Drone Service Providers (DSPs).

Salam Kisan (PRYM Group) has entered into a transformative partnership with the Government of Maharashtra. This is also in partnership with Microsoft as a technology partner to revolutionize precision agriculture in India. Announced at the prestigious World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marks a significant milestone in democratising agriculture drone technology, making it affordable and accessible for smallholder farmers who form 70 per cent of India’s farming population.

India’s agriculture sector is projected to require one million drones by 2030 to optimise farming practices. However, the high cost of these drones has remained a barrier for small and marginal farmers. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap by creating a sustainable ecosystem where Salam Kisan will spearhead the “Drone-as-a-Service” (DaaS) model. The company plans to invest Rs 300 crore over the next seven years to manufacture drones, establish training centers, and build a network of trained Drone Service Providers (DSPs). These efforts will not only make drone services affordable for farmers but also create over 200,000 rural jobs, empowering women, youth, and marginal communities.

The Government of Maharashtra will play a pivotal role in supporting this initiative by facilitating the establishment of infrastructure, training centers, and maintenance facilities in Marathwada. The government’s commitment, coupled with an investment of RsGovernme 300 crore over seven years, will ensure that rural communities benefit from this transformative technology. Microsoft, as the technology partner, will leverage its advanced AI, machine learning, and cloud capabilities to provide predictive analytics, real-time data insights, and seamless operational support for precision agriculture.

Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, highlighted the transformative potential of this collaboration, saying, “Maharashtra is leading agricultural transformation at #WEF25 in Davos. Through this collaboration with Salam Kisan (PRYM Solutions), we are creating over 300 jobs in drone manufacturing and empowering rural communities. This partnership will enhance productivity, promote sustainable practices, and set a global standard for climate-resilient farming and rural development.”

This collaboration is expected to have far-reaching impacts. For farmers, it will reduce input costs by 30 per cent, save significant water resources, and enhance crop productivity by up to 40 per cent through Salam Kisan’s AI-powered crop advisory and other precision farming solutions. For rural entrepreneurs, the training of 200,000 DSPs will enable them to earn sustainable incomes of up to Rs 5,00,000 annually, driving economic growth and revitalizing rural communities. On a broader scale, the initiative will save an estimated 238 billion liters of water by 2030, promote climate-smart agricultural practices, and contribute to food security while reducing environmental impacts.

The MoU also represents a significant investment in Marathwada, where Salam Kisan will expand its drone manufacturing under the Make in India initiative, set up training and maintenance centers, and create a scalable model that can be replicated nationwide. By addressing critical challenges such as water conservation, cost reduction, and environmental sustainability, the initiative aligns with Salam Kisan’s mission of empowering farmers and ensuring sustainable agriculture practices.

The announcement at the World Economic Forum underscores India’s leadership in climate-smart agriculture and sustainable development, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By presenting this collaboration on a global platform, Salam Kisan, the Government of Maharashtra, and Microsoft aim to attract international partners and investments to amplify the initiative’s impact.

Marut drones will generate economic and employment opportunities in districts in Maharashtra state.

With farmer’s welfare at priority, the Govt. of Maharashtra and Hyderabad based Marut Drones in collaboration introduced Marut’s AG365 drones to farmers of the Buldhana district. Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, personally interacted with the beneficiaries and encouraged them to spread awareness about the use of drones in farming, this is a positive step towards promoting technological advancements in agriculture.

Marut’s AG365S drone, with its highly reliable safety features like collision detection and avoidance system and safe return to launch, has already become a point of attraction for farmers being the first and only drone in Buldhana under the SMAM (Sub-mission On Agriculture Mechanization) scheme. This could potentially lead to improved agricultural practices, increased productivity, and enhanced crop management for the farmers in Buldhana, reducing the cost of production and increasing the profitability.

The SMAM scheme, which aims to promote and strengthen agricultural mechanization, is a crucial initiative for modernizing agriculture across India. The fact that it will be implemented in all Indian states highlights the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and enhancing agricultural practices nationwide.

By showcasing Marut’s multi-utility AG365S drone to farmers as part of this scheme, the Maharashtra agriculture department is playing a key role in educating and training farmers on the benefits and applications of drone technology in agriculture. This can lead to more efficient and sustainable farming practices, ultimately benefiting the farming community and the agricultural sector.

On this occasion, Prem Kumar Vislawath, CEO of Marut Drones said, “Marut’s technology is reaching remote districts to resolve the crisis afflicting the farmer’s community. We are extremely thankful to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for encouraging drone adoption to farmers of Buldhana. With Marut’s AG365 drone, the farming practices will be revolutionized, AG-365 is designed and developed for Indian conditions and can be used for multiple purposes giving a higher return on investment to the farmers. Marut drones will generate economic and employment opportunities in districts, the drones are safe to operate and have flying endurance of 22 minutes. With govt support and partnerships with agriculture departments, we will ensure that Marut’s technology reaches across villages and towns.”

The facility will transform rural Maharashtra through Disruptive Agricultural Technologies (DATs)

The Government of Maharashtra and World Bank, in a joint endeavour, have launched the ‘SMART Agtech Integration Facility 2022’ to transform rural Maharashtra through Disruptive Agricultural Technologies (DATs). This facility is presently seeking applications from DAT solution providers, with a presence in India, to bring in digital and technical innovations in the agriculture sector. The facility will enable selected DAT solution providers to work directly with the Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in Maharashtra to implement transformative solutions.

The project aims to enable collectives of smallholder farmers to participate in competitive agriculture value chains, facilitate agri-business investments, increase market access and productivity, and build the resilience of crops to recurrent floods or droughts in the state. A key sub-component of the project is to facilitate the adoption of DATs among CBOs in the state. The SMART Agtech Integration Facility 2022 will identify relevant DAT solution providers and facilitate interactions between the technology providers and CBOs to enable customisation and adoption of appropriate solutions.

The SMART Agtech Integration Facility 2022 is supported by a grant from the Korea World Bank Partnership Facility (KWPF), a collaboration between Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance (MoEF) and the World Bank. The grant marks the first KWPF initiative in India. Intellecap, a pioneer in enabling ecosystems and channelling capital to nurture a sustainable and equitable society, is supporting the execution of the grant.

The SMART AgTech Integration Facility is seeking support from DAT solution providers specifically for (1) implementing digitisation solutions for farmer collectives, (2) building value chain actor aggregation platforms, (3) enabling precision agriculture and automation services, (4) working with urban food systems and logistics solutions, (5) developing market linkage and traceability solutions, and (6) facilitating access to financial services.
