IIAB, Ranchi bags patent for developing innovative reaction vessel for nano-fertilizers

The innovative reaction vessel has been designed for a low cost, smart, robust reaction system enabling synthesis of chemical and green nanoparticles and advanced formulations like nano-fertilizers, nano-minerals, nano-pesticides etc.

In a significant milestone towards promoting innovation in Agricultural biotechnology and Nanotechnology, ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi, has been granted ‘Design Registration’ for developing an innovative ‘Reaction Vessel’ by the Patent Office, Government of India. The design is registered under Design No. 462528-001; Dated 17 June 2025 and recognizes the novelty and originality of this developed machine prototype.

The reaction vessel was developed by the team led by Dr. Biplab Sarkar, ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi, in collaboration with scientists from ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Kolkata and ICAR-National Institute of Secondary Agriculture, Ranchi.

This pilot-scale reaction system has production capacity of 75–100 litres which is fabricated using a stainless-steel base and is equipped with advanced temperature-control jackets, automated stirring mechanisms, and sealed reagent ports. The system enables the eco-friendly production of metal, metal oxide and biogenic nanoparticles with high precision and reproducibility.

The innovative reaction vessel has been designed for a low cost, smart, robust reaction system enabling synthesis of chemical and green nanoparticles and advanced formulations like nano-fertilizers, nano-minerals, nano-pesticides etc. This achievement reflects ICAR’s commitment towards fostering innovation, strengthening intellectual property generation, and developing indigenous technology for the benefit of farmers and agri-entrepreneurs. The registered design will facilitate future nanotechnology-enabled sustainable agricultural research and technology commercialisation.

Dr Sujay Rakshit, Director, ICAR-IIAB, Ranchi congratulated the research team for their remarkable accomplishment which further reinforces the institute’s role in advancing cutting-edge technologies for agricultural and societal benefit.

The Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU) of ICAR-IIAB has been actively promoting intellectual property generation, technology transfer, and industry partnerships. The institute invites industries, startups, research organisations, and entrepreneurs interested in collaborative research, product development, and technology licensing of the registered reaction vessel prototype.
