The MoU aims to strengthen and modernise the dairy cooperative sector in Tripura, enhance milk production, and improve the livelihoods of dairy farmers across the state.
In a move aimed at strengthening Tripura’s dairy ecosystem, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the State Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD), the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and the Gomati Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited to modernise the state’s dairy cooperative sector and enhance milk production.
The agreement was signed at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala in the presence of Manik Saha, Meenesh Shah, Tripura Animal Resources Development Minister Sudhangshu Das, Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, and senior government officials.
The partnership is designed to strengthen and modernise Tripura’s dairy cooperative network, improve milk procurement and marketing systems, and increase milk production across the state. The initiative is also expected to enhance the livelihoods of dairy farmers by providing greater institutional support and improving market access.
According to officials, the collaboration will support Tripura’s efforts to achieve self-reliance in milk production while creating new avenues for rural economic development. The agreement is expected to make the state’s dairy cooperative system more efficient through improved value chain integration and stronger support mechanisms for milk producers.
Speaking on the occasion, the stakeholders expressed confidence that the partnership would make the dairy cooperative sector more dynamic by improving procurement infrastructure, marketing efficiency, and farmer outreach. They said the initiative would contribute to strengthening the socio-economic condition of thousands of dairy farmers across the state.
ARDD Minister Sudhangshu Das and Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia described the agreement as a significant milestone for Tripura’s dairy sector. They said the tripartite arrangement would benefit both the government and dairy producers by strengthening the state’s dairy value chain and supporting sustained growth in milk production.
The ministers also reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving farmer welfare, noting that collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board would play a key role in transforming the rural economy through enhanced dairy development initiatives.
The MoU is expected to facilitate greater technological intervention, capacity-building programmes, and institutional support for dairy cooperatives, laying the foundation for sustainable growth of Tripura’s dairy industry and expanding income opportunities for rural households.
