India restores RoDTEP benefits to shield exporters from West Asia trade shock

Amid West Asia disruptions, the Centre moves swiftly to stabilize export competitiveness and ease logistics pressures

In a swift policy response to escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the Government of India has reinstated full benefits under the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products, aiming to cushion exporters from rising logistics costs and supply chain disruptions.

The move comes amid mounting challenges in maritime trade routes across the Gulf region, where rerouting and delays have significantly increased freight costs and impacted shipment timelines. By restoring RoDTEP rates and value caps to pre-February 23 levels, the government has effectively rolled back the earlier 50 per cent cap imposed last month, offering immediate relief to exporters navigating volatile global conditions.

Effective March 23, 2026, the revised framework reinstates the rates that were in force as of February 22, ensuring continuity and predictability for export-oriented sectors. The notification supersedes prior directives issued in late February, signaling a calibrated and responsive policy shift aligned with evolving trade realities.

The decision underscores India’s strategic intent to safeguard export competitiveness at a time when global supply chains are under strain. With West Asia serving as a critical trade corridor, disruptions in the region have amplified cost pressures for Indian exporters, particularly in sectors dependent on time-sensitive deliveries.

By restoring full RoDTEP benefits, the government is not only offsetting embedded taxes and duties but also reinforcing confidence among exporters facing heightened geopolitical risks. The move reflects a broader commitment to maintaining a stable and supportive trade ecosystem, even as external uncertainties continue to reshape global commerce.
