Industry leaders, policymakers, and technology providers to gather for two-day summit aimed at strengthening India’s compressed biogas ecosystem
India’s push toward cleaner fuels and a circular bioeconomy will take center stage this week as Nitin Gadkari, India’s Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, inaugurates the Compressed Biogas Conclave 2026 in Pune.
The two-day industry conclave, organized by the Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE), will be held on March 6–7, 2026 at YASHADA. The event will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and technology providers to accelerate the development of India’s compressed biogas (CBG) sector.
Driving India’s Bioenergy Transition
The event, themed “Moving Towards an Efficient & Robust CBG Production Ecosystem,” aims to address key operational, technological, and commercial challenges facing the compressed biogas industry. Discussions will focus on improving plant efficiency, optimizing feedstock utilization, scaling proven technologies, and creating viable offtake and revenue models for CBG projects.
The initiative is supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, reflecting the government’s broader strategy to expand biofuels as part of India’s energy transition.
Under national programs such as SATAT, compressed biogas is increasingly being deployed as a renewable fuel across transportation, industrial boilers, and commercial energy use. India has also introduced a mandatory CBG blending obligation starting at 1 per cent in FY2025–26, signaling strong policy backing for the sector.
Platform for Industry Collaboration
The conclave is expected to facilitate direct engagement between oil marketing companies, city gas distribution networks, financial institutions, policymakers, and technology providers, creating a collaborative platform for scaling sustainable and bankable CBG projects across the country.
Key dignitaries and industry leaders scheduled to participate include Annasaheb M. K. Patil, Chairman of IFGE; Dr. Pramod Chaudhari, President of IFGE and Founder Chairman of Praj Industries; Y. B. Ramakrishna, Senior Vice President of IFGE and Chairperson of the IFGE CBG Producer Forum; Sanjay Kolte, Commissioner of Sugar for the Government of Maharashtra; and Dr. Gaurav Mishra, Scientist ‘G’ at MNRE.
According to Dr. Chaudhari, compressed biogas is a critical component of India’s clean energy and circular economy ambitions, and industry forums like the conclave are essential for fostering technology collaboration and accelerating the sector’s growth.
Strengthening the CBG Ecosystem
The Indian Federation of Green Energy, a national trade body advocating for the green and bioenergy sector since 2014, works closely with industry, government agencies, and research institutions to promote sustainable energy solutions in India.
The Compressed Biogas Conclave 2026 will also feature technical sessions and an optional site visit to operational CBG facilities on March 8, offering participants insights into emerging technologies and operational best practices.
As India intensifies efforts to reduce fossil fuel dependence and create new income streams for farmers through biomass-based fuels, industry gatherings such as the Pune conclave are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s bioenergy roadmap.
