BCML and CIPET Ahmedabad drive bioeconomy momentum with ‘Bioyug on Wheels’

Ahmedabad’s innovation spirit met India’s sustainability ambitions as Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd. (BCML) brought its flagship initiative, Bioyug on Wheels, to the city on August 30, 2025. In collaboration with CIPET Ahmedabad, the event transformed the campus into a hub of ideas, dialogue, and hands-on experiences designed to accelerate India’s journey toward a circular economy.

Launched earlier this year, Bioyug on Wheels is BCML’s nationwide outreach program aimed at making the bioeconomy tangible—through live demonstrations, interactive exhibits, and direct engagement with students, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policymakers. The Ahmedabad edition delivered on that promise. Attendees explored bioplastics innovations, discovered the versatility of 100 per cent compostable PLA products, and engaged with experts who are shaping the future of sustainable industries.

The day-long program combined learning with action. Participants joined guided tours of the traveling Bioyug showcase, experimented with bio-based materials, and debated the policy and business pathways needed to scale up innovation. A seminar and panel discussion brought together thought leaders from academia, industry, and government, offering both vision and pragmatism.

Among the distinguished speakers were Dr. S. K. Nayak, former Director General of CIPET, who underscored the urgency of embedding research and policy into the growth of India’s bio-based industries, and Paritosh Diwasali, Director of CIPET Ahmedabad, who spoke about the institute’s role in fostering talent and driving applied innovation in bioplastics. Senior officials from companies such as Deltora Biopolymers Pvt. Ltd. and Vision Industries added an industry lens, sharing practical insights into commercialization and market adoption.

For BCML, the event was another milestone in building momentum. “The enthusiastic engagement and knowledge exchange witnessed in Ahmedabad underscore the growing momentum for sustainable solutions within the region,” said Shweta Suryawanshi, Sales Head, BCML PLA Division. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to driving systemic change, supporting India’s environmental objectives, and promoting sustainable growth within the bioeconomy.”

Since debuting in Mumbai in May 2025, Bioyug on Wheels has already engaged audiences in Madhya Pradesh, traveling through Bhopal and Indore before arriving in Gujarat. Ahmedabad—one of India’s most vibrant industrial and innovation hubs—offered fertile ground for conversation, collaboration, and cross-sectoral exchange. From here, the journey continues south, with Kochi, Kerala set to host the next chapter.

As it moves across the country, Bioyug on Wheels is more than an exhibition on wheels—it is a catalyst for change. By sparking dialogue, connecting stakeholders, and showcasing tangible alternatives, BCML and its partners are weaving sustainability into India’s economic future and proving that innovation and responsibility can, and must, go hand in hand.
