Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh held discussions with Norway’s Fisheries Minister in France on sustainable fisheries and marine collaboration. The meeting took place during the UN Ocean Conference in Nice.
On the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, France, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh held a bilateral meeting with Norway’s Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy, Marianne Sivertsen Ness. The two leaders engaged in discussions on sustainable fisheries, marine resource management, and advancing the blue economy.
During the talks, India and Norway reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation on sustainable ocean governance. They emphasized the urgent need for joint action to tackle challenges such as overfishing, marine pollution, and the responsible use of marine resources. The ministers also explored ways to improve data sharing and deepen scientific collaboration.
Both sides highlighted the critical role of international partnerships in achieving the objectives of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030), focusing on knowledge exchange, capacity building, and technology transfer. With a longstanding partnership in the fisheries sector, India and Norway are now seeking to expand collaboration to foster a sustainable and inclusive blue economy.
The discussions come amid growing global efforts to balance economic growth with marine conservation. The UNOC3, held from June 9 to 13, convenes world leaders, scientists, and policymakers to develop strategies for ocean health, sustainable development, and climate resilience. Leading India’s delegation, Dr. Singh is advocating for stronger global commitments toward ocean sustainability, climate adaptation, and livelihood support.
