A quiet revolution is underway in Meghalaya as over 7,000 farmers join the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), embracing modern agriculture to transform the state’s farmlands
A transformative wave is sweeping through Meghalaya’s agricultural landscape as over 7,000 farmers from 63 villages actively participate in the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), a flagship national campaign launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Launched on May 29, 2025, VKSA aims to modernize farming practices across India by reaching approximately 1.5 crore farmers in more than 700 districts. The campaign focuses on sustainable agriculture, promoting modern technologies such as drone usage, nano-fertilisers, organic farming, soil health management, and increasing awareness about government schemes like PM-KISAN, Kisan Credit Card, and the State Organic Mission.
In Meghalaya, farmers from regions including Ri Bhoi, Garo Hills, and Jaintia Hills have benefited from hands-on training sessions, demonstrations, and knowledge-sharing workshops tailored to the state’s unique agro-climatic conditions. The campaign also facilitated the distribution of high-quality seeds for rice, vegetables, and millets ahead of the Kharif season.
Agriculture Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh lauded the initiative, urging farmers to embrace sustainable and organic farming methods to boost productivity and resilience. “VKSA empowers our farmers with the tools and knowledge needed to transform Meghalaya’s agriculture, ensuring food security and economic prosperity,” she said.
Through VKSA, Meghalaya is witnessing a blend of traditional wisdom and innovative farming techniques, paving the way for a sustainable and prosperous agricultural future.
