More than 400 participants, including farmers, FPOs, and government representatives, convened for the event to talk about ways to boost agricultural exports. Important technical seminars addressed GI-tagged Odisha products, rice export expansion, and organic certification
To increase the export of agricultural products from Odisha, the Government of Odisha and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) collaborated to arrange a workshop and capacity building program. On April 25, 2025, the event was held in Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar, at Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Hall.
More than ten booths representing exporters from throughout the state, government agencies, women agripreneurs, and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) were on display at the event. Koraput Kalajeera Rice, Nayagarh Kanteimundi Brinjal, Ganjam Kewda Flower Products, Koraput Coffee, Kandhamal Haldi Powder, Kendrapara Rasabali, Salepur Rasagolla, Khajuri Gud, Dhenkanal Magaji Ladoo, and Mayurbhanj Kai Chutney were among the many specialty and geographical indication (GI)-tagged products on display.
Kanak Bardhan Singh Deo, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture, spoke to the audience and emphasized the state’s initiatives to support exports of organic and GI-tagged agricultural products. He commended APEDA’s proactive assistance in boosting Odisha’s agricultural exports and urged stakeholders to take use of the state’s wide range of products for the international market.
Three technical talks aimed at enhancing the export environment were part of the program. These talks addressed the relevance of value addition in agri-processed and GI-tagged products, methods for increasing rice exports by enhancing logistics and market access, and the promotion of organic exports under the updated National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP).
The event was attended by about 400 people, including progressive farmers, representatives from OUAT, FPOs, Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), and officials from several state departments. In order to discuss updates about the new 8th Edition of the NPOP, which was introduced earlier this year, APEDA also arranged a special interaction with more than 30 organic grower groups and certifying agencies.
Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi, a member of parliament, linked the One District, One Product (ODOP) program to the larger goal of creating a developed India by 2047 and underlined the importance of using the Agri-Infra Fund to increase exports.
The enormous potential for organic exports in the state was emphasized by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev, who also promised ongoing support through upcoming events and trade shows.
The workshop effectively convened academicians, industry professionals, and influential officials to establish the foundation for a more robust agricultural export environment in Odisha.
