Rashtriya Kisan Progressive Association took strong exception to certain associations pegging the level of sub-standard and spurious pesticides at just 2 per cent of the overall pesticides market of the country

Rashtriya Kisan Progressive Association (RKPA), a pan-India association that works for the welfare and progress of farmers across the country accused certain associations and vested interests of working against the interest of farmers and condemned it for presenting misleading facts in the public domain.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Binod Anand, National President, of Rashtriya Kisan Progressive Association took strong exception to certain associations pegging the level of sub-standard and spurious pesticides at just 2 per cent of the overall pesticides market of the country.

“India’s agricultural productivity has increased by more than 6 times since 1950, a remarkable achievement indeed. But unfortunately, per acre yield is way below in comparison to many developed and developing nations. Despite having 30 per cent more arable land and 67 per cent more rainfall than China, India’s agriculture GDP is about one-third of China’s. One major contributor to lower yields is the widespread use of low-quality inputs including agrochemicals. Yet, some vested interest dares to put the level of sub-standard products at 2 per cent of the overall Indian market. This is nothing but misleading and cheating of farmers,” said Binod Anand.

“The counterfeit pesticides market is a parallel industry as evident from various FIRs which have been registered against the culprits by reputed companies. It is adversely impacting farmers’ livelihoods, yield, crop quality, income, and the Indian economy on a broader aspect,” Anand added.


Citing the example of the huge damage to 9 lakh acres of chilli crops in South India in 2021, he said, “The damage was mainly due to usage of sub-standard pesticides in the sub-lethal dose. The ultimate sufferers were farmers and consumers. Strict action is a must against such culprits, but unfortunately, vested interests are strengthening such elements by presenting a misleading picture.”

“Few of these so-called Bio-pesticides/ Bio-stimulants were the cocktails of 10-12 chemical pesticides and some of them are not even registered in India which also indicates the possibility of smuggling of such chemicals from foreign countries,” he said.

Crop-specific SOPs issue for use of pesticides with farming drones

The book titled ‘Machinery for Millets Production, Processing & Value Addition’ released

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare released Crop Specific ‘Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Application of Pesticides with Drones’ in the public domain for the guidance of farmers and other stakeholders. Tomar also released a booklet titled ‘Machinery for Millets Production, Processing and Value Addition’. On this occasion, Tomar said that agriculture is our priority, so whether it is research or initiating schemes, the first priority of the government is to promote agriculture and improve the financial condition of the farmers. There are many challenges in the Agriculture sector. To retain the farmers, attract the new generation and increase the remuneration of the farmers by reducing the cost of production. For this, technical support in the agriculture sector is very important, the government is making continuous efforts in this direction.

Under the Agricultural Mechanization Sub-Mission, ICAR institutes, KVKs, SAUs, other State/Central Government Agricultural Institutes and Government of India PSUs engaged in agricultural activities are provided financial assistance at the rate of 100 per cent of the drone cost (up to Rs. 10 lacks per drone) besides Contingent Expenses for the purpose of demonstration of drones in the farmers’ fields. FPOs are given grant-in-aid at the rate of 75 per cent for the purchase of drones for a demonstration on farmers’ fields. For the purpose of providing agricultural services through the use of drones, financial assistance is given at the rate of 40 per cent of the original cost of the drone by CHCs to Farmers Cooperative Society, FPOs and Rural Entrepreneurs for the purchase of drones, subject to a maximum of Rs.4 lakh. Agricultural Graduates setting up CHCs are provided financial assistance up to Rs. 5 lacks at the rate of 50 per cent of the cost of drones. Individual small and marginal farmers, SC-ST farmers, women farmers and farmers of North-Eastern states will also get 50 per cent of the cost of the drone subject to a maximum of Rs 5 lakh while other farmers are eligible for assistance at 40 per cent of the cost of the drone, subject to a maximum of Rs. 4 lakhs.

SBI will provide loans at the market rate to the customers of IoTech World Aviation without any mortgage, a 3 per cent concession in interest.

State Bank of India (SBI) and drone manufacturer IoTech World have come together to provide agri-drones to farmers at affordable prices and low loans. The two companies signed a formal agreement. The SBI will give loans at 3 per cent less than the market rate to the farmers, who buy agricultural drones from IoTech World Company.

Deepak Bhardwaj, the co-founder IoTech World, said that the SBI will provide loans at the market rate to the customers of IoTech World Aviation without any mortgage, a 3 per cent concession in interest. This exemption will be given under the Government of India’s Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF).

Bhardwaj said that Agri-drones will prove a boon for India’s agriculture sector. The loan facility provided by SBI will prove to be very helpful for those farmers who were not able to buy drones due to a lack of institutional finance facilities.”

Anup Upadhyay, IoTech World Navigation co-founder said drones help in the optimum use of fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture, thereby reducing the cost of farming. The use of agriculture-drone is not only helpful in increasing the yield, but also saves a lot of time. Agri-drones are going to prove a miracle for Indian agriculture. It is noteworthy that IoTech World Navigation was started in the year 2017. This company manufactures agricultural drones.

Agrochemical company Heranba Industries has acquired 57,248.29 sq mt plot at Saykha Industrial Estate in Gujarat. The company already owns plots for the production of pesticides, intermediates, fungicides, herbicides and insecticides and has received permission to settle (CTE) from Gujarat Pollution Control Board.

The company has received the environmental permit from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change, Government of India to set up a production unit with a capacity of 10,680 TPA on the Saykha Plot for its products’.

For further expansion of the production units, Heranba acquired additional industrial lot No. T-108 +109 with an area of 57,248.29 square metres at Saykha Industrial Estate.
