IIL’s Sustainability Report 2023-24 Highlights Transformative Progress in Renewable Energy, Governance, and Farmer Empowerment

Insecticides (India) Limited (IIL) has published its Sustainability Report for FY 2023-24, detailing its achievements in sustainable practices, community development, and innovation-driven growth. The report outlines IIL’s efforts to integrate environmental stewardship and social responsibility into its operations, reflecting its vision for a sustainable agricultural ecosystem. The report highlights that 7.64 per cent of total electricity consumption met through renewable electricity. Energy-saving upgrades at Dahej, such as improved cooling systems and replacing outdated 10 m 2 ATFD with a more efficient 30 m 2 ATFD, further optimising resource efficiency. Water intensity decreased by 5.47 per cent, supported by Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems at Chopanki, Udhampur, and Samba, and an advanced wastewater treatment facility at Dahej.

In FY 2023-24, water consumption and water discharge reduced by 1.91 per cent and 14.75 per cent respectively owing to process efficiency. On the social front, IIL’s initiatives impacted over 50,000 beneficiaries during FY 2023-24. The nationwide expansion of Project Kisaan Jagrukta Abhiyan equipped farmers with essential knowledge about crop protection. Partnerships with institutions like SVPUAT in Meerut provided training to 1,300 farmers, emphasizing safe agricultural practices. Project Vidhya strengthened rural education by upgrading infrastructure, building sanitation facilities, and providing essential resources. IIL Foundation, in collaboration with Navjyoti India Foundation, supports the Remedial Education Project in the Bawana area, Delhi which extended healthcare support through 3,800 free eye screenings, the distribution of 520 eyeglasses, and access to medical services for underserved communities.
Imbibing the same values internally, the company achieved a 4.1/5 employee happiness score and introduced initiatives like the IIL Wellness Series and structured training programmes,
providing an average of 11.25 hours of learning per employee. IIL aims to achieve 18 per cent women representation at the executive level or above by March 2025, reinforcing its commitment to workplace diversity. IIL understands that relationships with stakeholders are essential for sustained growth and success. In recognition of this, they are committed to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance, aligned with established and rigorous guidelines.

IIL view governance as a fundamental aspect of their operations, with policies designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, ultimately creating value for all the stakeholders. Innovation continues to drive IIL’s success. The company filed five patents during FY 2023-24 and advanced its research and development capabilities through four dedicated centers, including a GLP-certified facility at Chopanki. These efforts enhanced the company’s ability to meet the evolving needs of farmers while maintaining a focus on sustainability. The financial year also recorded ~9 per cent increase in revenue, reaching Rs1,966 crore, with a net profit of INR 102 crore. CSR expenditure totaled Rs 247.07 lakh, supporting initiatives in education, healthcare, and farmer welfare.
