A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata and AgroPreneurs Market Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad, for the development of women entrepreneurs in agri-business and procurement of farm-produce directly from farmers under the brand Grains Global.

ICAR-ATARI and AMTPL are partnering to assist AgroPreneurs in finding suitable markets and building their farmer networks. AMTPL will arrange buyers, provide working capital for youth through bank loans, offer free training on processes, products, technology, and pricing, and support KVKs in using AMTPL’s technology platform, thereby enhancing their ability to handle farm produce.

Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata and Prasun Dey, Director, AMTPL, signed the MoU on behalf of their organisations.The signing and exchange of the Memorandum of Understanding was witnessed by Dr. P. Bandopadhyay, Director, Extension Education, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Nadia.

This year’s rubber expo will be the largest rubber trade show ever held in the Asia-Pacific region

The 11th India Rubber Expo (IRE) will be held in Mumbai from March 20 to 23, 2024, and it will be organised by the All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA).

According to reports, this year’s rubber expo will be the largest rubber trade show ever held in the Asia-Pacific region.

The rubber expo aims to present the most recent technological developments in the rubber industry, bring together rubber traders under one roof, increase the number of exhibitors, and evaluate the state of the market at the moment.

More than 450 exhibitors, including homegrown and global players from more than 30 nations, are supposed to take part in the exhibition. Roadshows will be held in major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad to promote this expo.

“We are well aware that rubber, as an essential component in most sectors, has immense growth potential in India,” stated Vishnu Bhimrajka, Chief Convener of IRE 2024. Keeping this in mind, an event of this magnitude will provide the ideal occasion to investigate novel products, technologies, and innovations that may contribute to the industry’s expansion.

Ramesh Kejriwal, Leader of AIRIA and Co-Convener of Fury 2024, said, “Similar to each year, this time as well, we are expecting interest from probably the greatest elastic merchants from across Asia. This is an opportunity for newcomers to connect with established players, promote their brand, and exchange ideas. IRE’s ultimate objective is to “pave the way for collective action to achieve ambitious goals by facilitating collaboration between entities and facilitating collaboration.”

Due to its highly diversified application in industries like automobiles, railways, defence, energy and infrastructure, mining, transportation, agriculture and food products, textiles, paper and printing, construction, machinery and equipment, and healthcare, the rubber industry, which generates approximately Rs12,000 crore in revenue, is poised for rapid expansion.

Dr Das, Director, Central Fisheries Research Institute was speaking in the inaugural function of Farmers Science Congress, organised in Nagpur as a part of 108th Indian Science Congress

“The nation has made tremendous progress in food grain production and our farmers’ meticulous efforts have made the biggest contribution to it; However, it is seen that the economic condition of the farmers has not improved much. Hence effective use of modern science and technology is important for the progress of agriculture,” said, Basant Kumar Das, Director, Central Fisheries Research Institute, Kolkata, Indian Agricultural Research Institute. He asserted that farmers need to be aware of market techniques.

He was speaking in the inaugural function of Farmers Science Congress, organised in Nagpur as a part of 108th Indian Science Congress. Dr Vijayalakshmi Saxena, Chairperson of the Indian Science Congress presided over the function and Padmashree Rahibai Popere, Beej Mata (Mother of seeds), Dr Subhash Chaudhary, Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj University, Dr Ashish Paturkar, Vice Chancellor of Animal and Fisheries Science University were present on this occasion.

Addressing the event, Dr Vijayalakshmi Saxena said that, the condition of farmers is still critical, they are not getting enough income as compared to their hard work. Farm sector is the worst affected due to changing climatic conditions. She informed that, this is for the first time, Farmers’ Science Congress has been organised in ISC to discuss the problems and plights of farmers, and expressed hope that Agri-scientists around the world will thoroughly discuss the issues related to farmers on this platform and it will ultimately be helpful for farmers.

Dr Prakash Kadu gave information regarding the work of Agricultural University (PKV) in Akola. The university has so far developed 176 different crop varieties. Modern agricultural technology has reached up to 11 thousand villages in Vidarbha. Dr Kadu said that the university is continuously working on organic farming.

Discussions were held on fishery-based integrated farming system

The ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kolkata Centre recently organised a three-day skill development programme on “Advances in Freshwater Aquaculture” under Tribal Sub Plan. The programme was jointly organised in collaboration with the ICAR-Research Complex for North-Eastern Hills Region, Sikkim Centre, Tadong, Gangtok, ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Sikkim, Ranipool and Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Sikkim, Gangtok, Sikkim.

The Chief Guest, N Jaswant Singh, Director, Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Sikkim underlined the different government schemes for fisheries development in Sikkim. The need for the recirculatory aquaculture system and the value-added fish products from organic farming in the state was stressed by Singh.

Dr Ramgopal Laha, Principal Scientist & Joint Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Sikkim Centre emphasised the fishery-based integrated farming system.

CS Rai, Additional Director, Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Sikkim highlighted the major diseases and common problems of the fish culture in the State. The ways for better management practices were also suggested by Dr Rai.

The KVK also held the “Farmer’s-Scientists’-Interaction Session” during the occasion.

Around 12,000 fingerlings of Amur Carp along with 1,540 kg fish feed and 1,250 kg lime were distributed to the farmers during the programme. The programme registered participation by 50 farmers.

The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, Kolkata in association with the National Jute Board and Jute Corporation of India recently organised the Stakeholders’ Meet on “Modern Agronomic Practices for Jute Cultivation.”

Delivering the inaugural address, the Chief Guest, MC Chakrabortty, Jute Commissioner, National Jute Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India stressed the greater contribution involvement and coordination in the future for better performance in the jute sector.

The Guest of Honour, Kamlesh Kumar, General Manager, NABARD underlined the important role that the NABARD can play by mobilising the Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations, Farmers’ Club to a single platform for subsidised input and profitable marketing of jute fibres.

The Guest of Honour, AK Jolly, MD, Jute Corporation of India accentuated the exchange of ideas and strategies for filling up the gap existing in the Jute-ICARE Project.

The Guest of Honour, Esther Kathar, Additional Secretary, P&RD, Government of Assam highlighted the scope of developing the Jute Clusters in Assam.

The Guest of Honour, Dr Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore, Kolkata emphasised the adoption of the technology-centric strategies for filling up the yield gap. Dr Kar emphasised disseminating four to five good quality varieties to the farmers for sustaining and maintaining the growth in fibre productivity. The technologies like inter-specific jute hybrid, endospore-based liquid retting consortium and jute ribboner that are useful in jute farming were also highlighted by Dr Kar.

The Guest of Honor, Dr DB Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata regarded the Jute-ICARE as one of the most successful promotional Projects that has reached a larger section of the jute farmers.

More than 100 delegates from the various ICAR Institutes; Directorate of Jute Development, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare; Jute Corporation of India; National Jute Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; representatives from state governments and Indian Space Research Organization, etc., attended the meet.
