Discussions were held on the popularisation and adoption of various varieties of rice crops

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad recently organised the ’57th Annual Rice Group Meeting’.

Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) stressed on the importance of developing the multi-stress tolerant varieties. Popularisation and adoption of the varieties that have been released over the years and to develop and release the varieties only after the thorough evaluation of the markets and consumer’s preferences was emphasized by the Director General. Dr Mohapatra also urged for documenting the extent of the varietal spread on actual basis and discouraging the calculations of the varietal spread based on the breeder’s seed indent.

Dr Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR highlighted the importance of using the modern, cutting-edge technologies including IoT, Genomics and Precision Agriculture in developing the varieties with the high productivity and suitable for the different ecosystems and suited to a rapidly changing climate.

Delivering the inaugural address, Dr RK Singh, ADG (FFC), ICAR regarded the Rice as one of the most important crops of the country with largest area and production. Improving the production and productivity of Rice in addressing the issues of malnutrition and food security of the nation were also stressed by Dr Singh.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr RM Sundaram, Director, ICAR-IIRR, Hyderabad briefed about the research highlights of the All India Coordinated Research Project on Rice. Dr Sundaram also outlined the release of 6 varieties, viz., DRR Dhan 57, 58, 59, 60, 62 and 63 by the ICAR-IIRR, Hyderabad through the AICRP on Rice System in 2021.
Dr. Padmini Swain, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack, Odisha highlighted the importance of the AICRP on Rice Testing System and conduct of trials in two Zones (III and IV).

The ICAR-National Research Centre on Meat, Hyderabad signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jubilant Food Works, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Devendra Yadav, Vice-President & Head, Quality, Food Safety and Regulatory and Rakesh Kumar Gupta, DGM, Quality & Food Safety, Jubilant Food Works signed the MoU on the behalf of their respective organisations.

Dr SB Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-NRC on Meat, Hyderabad underlined the importance of the improved shelf-life, enhanced safety and regulatory compliance to meet the stakeholders’ requirements.

The project is aimed to assess the existing Jubilant Chicken supply chain, developing packaging and processing interventions to increase the shelf-life of fresh and cooked chicken meat and benchmarking against regulatory standards.

The MoU is aimed at conducting the Contract Research “Studies on Extended Shelf Life of Chicken and Enhancing Post Cooking Quality and Safety”.

Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) has recently entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), Hyderabad. G Narendra Kumar, Director General, NIRDPR, and Dr S Sudheer Kumar, Registrar, PJTSAU have executed the MoU papers in the presence of the PJTSAU, Vice Chancellor, Dr V Praveen Rao, at the programme organised at Agrihub, in the university campus. Several officers from the NIRDPR and University officers of the PJTSAU were present in the programme.

In another development, another MoU was signed with Sresta Natural Bioproducts and Wevio Global by the registrar of the university S Sudheer Kumar and Managing Director of Sresta Natural Bioproducts S Rajasekhar Reddy and Director of Wevio Global Y Madhusudhana Rao in the presence of Vice-Chancellor V Praveen Rao.

The university and Sresta Natural would work together on research, training, innovation and training of students in organic and natural agricultural products. Similarly, the pact with Wevio Global would help the university to work on awareness about farm mechanisation for small and marginal farmers.

The new Automatic Weather Station (AWS) at Department of Plant Pathology, ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad established under the DST-ICRISAT collaborative Project on Centre of Excellence on Climate Change Research for Plant Protection: Pest and Disease Management has opened.

Dr RM Sundaram, Director, ICAR-IIRR, Hyderabad and Dr Mamta Sharma, Project Coordinator, Deputy Regional Director-Asia, ICRISAT, Hyderabad inaugurated the Station.

Dr MS Prasad, Head, Plant Pathology, ICAR-IIRR, Hyderabad underlined the project. Dr V Prakasam, Principal Investigator underlined the 12 Soil and Atmospheric Weather Parameters recorded in the AWS.

The ICAR-National Research Centre on Meat, Hyderabad recently organised an interactive meeting on ‘Pig Production and Processing Technology for Entrepreneurship Development – A way forward for Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Central Agricultural University, Aizawl, Mizoram.

The meet was organised in collaboration with the Department of Livestock Products Technology, College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Aizawl, Mizoram as part of the activities under the North-Eastern Region Component.
