Hoshiarpur facility reaches 20 lakh tractor production as the homegrown manufacturer strengthens its global footprint across more than 150 countries
Homegrown tractor manufacturer Sonalika Tractors has rolled out its 20 lakhth tractor from its integrated manufacturing facility in Hoshiarpur, marking a significant milestone in India’s agricultural machinery sector and reinforcing the company’s emergence as a global farm equipment manufacturer. The achievement comes nearly three decades after Sonalika entered the tractor industry in 1996, reflecting the company’s steady expansion in manufacturing capacity, product development and international market penetration. The milestone also highlights the growing role of Indian manufacturers in supplying agricultural mechanisation solutions to both domestic and overseas markets.
The landmark tractor was unveiled during a ceremony attended by the company’s leadership and workforce at the Hoshiarpur plant, where Sonalika also showcased its manufacturing journey—from its first one lakh tractors to the latest two-million-unit milestone. The company today exports tractors to more than 150 countries, positioning India as an increasingly important global production hub for farm machinery. The production milestone reflects the sustained demand for mechanised farming solutions amid rising pressure on agricultural productivity, labour availability and farm efficiency. As farmers increasingly seek technologically advanced, fuel-efficient and application-specific equipment, manufacturers have accelerated investments in production capabilities and product innovation.
Sonalika attributed its growth to continuous product innovation and customer confidence, highlighting its long-running brand philosophy centred on empowering farmers with higher productivity. The company said the latest milestone reinforces its commitment to developing next-generation tractors tailored to evolving agricultural requirements. The achievement also comes at a time when India’s farm equipment industry is witnessing growing export opportunities, supported by expanding mechanisation in emerging markets and the country’s strengthening manufacturing ecosystem. For Sonalika, the 20 lakh production mark represents not only a manufacturing milestone but also a strategic indicator of its ambitions to deepen its presence in global agricultural machinery markets.
