Agribazaar builds one of India’s largest grassroots digital agriculture networks

Agribazaar has built an extensive village-level workforce equipped with skills in mobile-based farm data collection, geo-tagging, crop intelligence gathering, acreage estimation, farm-level verification, and remote sensing-enabled agricultural assessments.

Agribazaar, a technology-driven agricultural marketplace and wholly owned subsidiary of StarAgri, has successfully mapped more than 3 million farm plots across Himachal Pradesh while training and deploying over 6,000 local youths. This marks one of the largest technology-led farm-level mapping and rural outreach initiatives undertaken by an agritech company in India.

The large-scale deployment represents a significant milestone in India’s agricultural digitisation journey. What began as a digital crop mapping exercise has evolved into a comprehensive rural technology network that generates farm-level intelligence while creating new livelihood opportunities in remote and hilly regions of the state.

Through the initiative, Agribazaar has built an extensive village-level workforce equipped with skills in mobile-based farm data collection, geo-tagging, crop intelligence gathering, acreage estimation, farm-level verification, and remote sensing-enabled agricultural assessments. This network addresses a critical gap in the agricultural ecosystem- trusted last-mile engagement. By combining digital tools with local participation and outreach, the company ensures that valuable agricultural insights are effectively translated into actionable outcomes for farmers, driving greater adoption of data-led farming practices.

Amith Agarwal, CEO & Co-founder, Agribazaar, said, “As one of India’s leading agritech companies, we are proud to contribute to the digital transformation of agriculture. Our work in Himachal Pradesh demonstrates how technology, when combined with strong local participation, can create meaningful impact at scale. We believe this model can be replicated across other hill states and agricultural regions in the country. Our focus remains on delivering accurate, high-quality farm data and completing surveys efficiently, creating a strong foundation for better agricultural planning and decision-making.

We fully support the Government of India’s vision for farm digitisation, which is critical to making agriculture more scientific, productive, and data driven. Access to reliable data and scientific farming practices can help farmers improve yields, reduce crop losses, and make better use of resources such as water, fertilisers, and seeds. Over time, this can enhance farm incomes while also promoting more sustainable agricultural practices.”

Beyond its immediate operational achievements, the Himachal Pradesh deployment offers a scalable blueprint for India’s broader agricultural transformation. By building local capabilities alongside digital systems, Agribazaar has established a framework that can be replicated across geographies to support the next phase of India’s agricultural modernisation.
