Escorts Kubota sustains growth momentum with 18.9% rise in May tractor sales

Strong domestic demand offsets export weakness as rural sentiment and pre-Kharif activity support market expansion

Escorts Kubota Limited’s Agri Machinery Business reported a robust performance in May 2026, registering total tractor sales of 12,310 units, reflecting an 18.9 per cent year-on-year increase compared to 10,354 units sold during the corresponding period last year.

The growth was primarily driven by a strong domestic market, where sales climbed to 11,887 units, marking a 22.5 per cent increase over May 2025. The company attributed the performance to sustained wholesale and retail demand, favourable farm economics, healthy reservoir levels, positive rural sentiment, and continued agricultural activity ahead of the Kharif sowing season.

While domestic markets remained resilient, exports faced headwinds amid subdued demand across key international markets. Export sales stood at 423 units, compared to 651 units in May 2025, representing a decline of 35 per cent.

For the first two months of FY27 (April–May 2026), Escorts Kubota recorded cumulative tractor sales of 23,167 units, registering a 21.4 per cent increase over the 19,083 units sold during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

Domestic sales during the period reached 22,285 units, posting a robust 24.8 per cent growth, while exports declined by 28.4 per cent to 882 units.

The company’s performance underscores the continued resilience of India’s agricultural machinery market, supported by favourable water availability, stable rural consumption patterns, and improving farmer confidence. Industry observers note that the upcoming monsoon season and Kharif crop outlook will remain critical determinants of demand momentum in the coming months.

At the same time, the sector continues to navigate evolving challenges, including elevated input costs, fluctuating commodity prices, and geopolitical uncertainties influencing global trade flows. Emerging El Niño conditions also remain a key variable, although current reservoir levels and groundwater availability are expected to provide a cushion against short-term climatic disruptions.

The latest sales figures reinforce Escorts Kubota’s position among India’s leading tractor manufacturers as mechanisation continues to gain traction across diverse agricultural regions, driven by productivity imperatives and labour availability concerns.
