Mahindra posts 22 % surge in May tractor sales as farm demand remains robust

Strong domestic momentum and improving export performance reinforce leadership position ahead of the Kharif season

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.’s Farm Equipment Business (FEB) reported a strong performance in May 2026, recording total tractor sales of 49,695 units, representing a 22 per cent year-on-year increase over the 40,643 units sold during the corresponding month last year.

The growth was led by a robust domestic market, where tractor sales reached 47,845 units, compared with 38,914 units in May 2025, translating into a 23 per cent increase. The performance reflects sustained farm sector activity, favourable agricultural conditions and resilient demand across key rural markets.

The company also registered positive momentum in international markets, with exports rising to 1,850 units from 1,729 units a year earlier, marking a 7 per cent increase despite continuing uncertainty across several global agricultural economies.

On a cumulative basis, Mahindra sold 98,106 tractors during the first two months of FY27, compared with 80,697 units during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, delivering an overall growth of 22 per cent.

Domestic sales for the April–May period stood at 94,249 units, up 22 per cent from 77,430 units a year ago, while exports increased 18 per cent to 3,857 units from 3,267 units during the same period last year.

The company attributed the strong domestic performance to the timely completion of Rabi harvesting operations, improved farm cash flows and favourable terms of trade for agricultural producers. Industry analysts note that healthy reservoir levels, stable rural consumption and expectations of another active Kharif season continue to support tractor demand across major agricultural states.

Speaking about the sales performance, Veejay Nakra, President – Farm Equipment Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “We have sold 47,845 tractors in the domestic market during May 2026 registering a growth of 23 per cent over last year. This high growth was driven by timely completion of Rabi harvesting and favorable terms of trade for farmers. In the export markets, we have sold 1,850 tractors, a growth of 7 per cent over last year.

The latest sales figures reinforce the broader strength of India’s farm mechanisation sector, which continues to benefit from rising productivity requirements, labour shortages and increasing adoption of advanced agricultural equipment.

While concerns surrounding input cost inflation, commodity price volatility and emerging weather risks remain on the horizon, the sector enters the Kharif season with strong underlying fundamentals, positioning agricultural machinery manufacturers for continued growth momentum in the coming quarters.
