ICAR is conducting programmes across multiple states to educate farmers, students and agricultural stakeholders on soil test-based nutrient management and eco-friendly farming practices
In line with the Government of India’s focus on sustainable agriculture and soil health conservation, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has strengthened its nationwide awareness campaign promoting the balanced use of fertilisers. Through its network of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and research institutes, ICAR is conducting programmes across multiple states to educate farmers, students and agricultural stakeholders on soil test-based nutrient management and eco-friendly farming practices.
During May 18–19, 2026, several awareness activities were organised across the country. In Punjab, KVK Fazilka conducted a programme for school students highlighting the importance of soil testing and balanced fertiliser application. In West Bengal, KVKs in Burdwan, Kalimpong and South 24 Parganas organised training sessions on sustainable nutrient management and soil health improvement.
Similar initiatives were conducted in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Telangana, covering topics such as green manuring, biofertilisers, precision agriculture, organic farming and scientific seed treatment practices for Kharif crops.
ICAR officials stated that the campaign aims to encourage judicious fertiliser use, improve soil fertility and promote sustainable farming systems to enhance long-term agricultural productivity while reducing environmental impact.
