India’s horticulture output rises to record 3,677 lakh tonnes in 2024-25

India’s horticulture production is projected to reach an all-time high of 3,677.24 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, registering a 3.66 per cent increase over the previous year’s 3,547.44 lakh tonnes. The announcement was made by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while releasing the Second Advance Estimates of horticulture crop production.

Minister Chouhan credited the growth to the dedicated efforts of farmers and agri-scientists, along with government-backed initiatives that are enabling better inputs, technology, and infrastructure for the horticulture sector.

The total area under horticulture cultivation expanded modestly from 290.86 lakh hectares in 2023-24 to 292.67 lakh hectares in 2024-25, indicating sustained focus on high-value agriculture. Fruit production is estimated at 1,145.10 lakh tonnes, reflecting a growth of 1.36 per cent over the previous year. Vegetable production has seen a sharper rise of 6 per cent, reaching an estimated 2,196.74 lakh tonnes
