World climate action leaders, citizen groups and corporates to converge in Mumbai for global South’s first Mumbai Climate Week

100+ institutions, 400 speakers including Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton, Union Ministers, global governments, Sachin Tendulkar and Indian space heroes

Mumbai is set to become the climate leadership capital of the Global South as world leaders, policymakers, business executives, financiers, philanthropists, innovators, youth and citizen groups gather for the inaugural Mumbai Climate Week (MCW) from February 17–19, 2026.

Positioned as the first climate week of its scale anchored in the Global South, MCW aims to move beyond dialogue to measurable climate action—funding solutions, forging partnerships, influencing policy and empowering communities.

With entry free but by invitation and registration, thousands of climate enthusiasts are expected to attend. Citizens can register at www.mumbaiclimateweek.com
.

A Hub-and-Spoke Model for Climate Action

The three-day central hub at the Jio World Convention Centre will host leadership dialogues, thematic tracks, an Innovation Challenge, the Youth Green Innovation Challenge and a large-scale solutions exhibition arena. This will be complemented by a citywide network of campus, community and cultural events designed to take climate conversations into everyday spaces.

Conceptualised by award-winning NGO Project Mumbai, MCW is supported by the Government of Maharashtra, the Department of Environment and Climate Change, MMRDA and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The initiative positions Mumbai as a living laboratory for climate solutions scalable across India and other Global South cities.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Mumbai Climate Week showcases India’s resolve to lead with action on climate, from the city level to the global stage. As Mumbai hosts leaders from across India and the world, we are sending a clear message that Maharashtra is ready to collaborate with all partners to build cleaner, safer and more resilient futures for our citizens and for the Global South.”

Shishir Joshi, CEO & Founder, Project Mumbai, added: “Mumbai Climate Week reflects India’s first citizen-led climate movement at this scale, where ministers, businesses and experts share space with students, frontline workers and neighbourhood volunteers. It signals what climate leadership from the Global South truly looks like.”

The Earthshot Prize Makes Its Mumbai Debut

Day 1 will feature a landmark evening dedicated to The Earthshot Prize, founded by HRH Prince William. Presented exclusively at MCW, the world’s most prestigious environmental award will spotlight scalable climate solutions across nature, food systems and people, bringing together global innovators and frontline changemakers from the Global South.

A special space-themed session on February 18 will see Indian space pioneers Rakesh Sharma and astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla engage with students and global leaders, connecting space exploration, science and climate responsibility.

Global Leadership Line-Up

MCW will feature more than 400 speakers from over 30 countries across policy, finance, philanthropy, business and civil society.

Confirmed international leaders include Hillary Clinton, Bill Gates, Rajiv Shah (The Rockefeller Foundation), Imad Fakhoury (IFC, World Bank Group), Amanda Leland (Environmental Defense Fund) and Clarisa De Franco (Allied Climate Partners).

From India’s public leadership, expected attendees include Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Pralhad Joshi, Dr. S. Jaishankar, Piyush Goyal, and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, among others.

Indian business and finance leaders participating include Noel Tata, V. Vaidyanathan (IDFC FIRST Bank), Amit Chandra (Bain Capital PE India), Ankur Gupta (Brookfield Asset Management), Jamshyd Godrej, Nadir Godrej, Esther Finidori (Schneider Electric), Martin Krause (UNEP), Cynthia McCaffrey (UNICEF India), Anjalli Ravi Kumar (Zomato), Pratik Agarwal (Serentica Renewables) and Sameer Shisodia (Rainmatter Foundation).

The philanthropy and research ecosystem will feature leaders such as Rohini Nilekani, Soumya Swaminathan, Manoj Kumar (Naandi Foundation), Satyajit Bhatkal (Paani Foundation), Mridula Ramesh (Sundaram Climate Institute), Seema Paul (Sequoia Climate Foundation), Shishir Sinha (Clean Air Fund) and Dr. Veena Srinivasan (WELL Labs).

Cinema voices advocating sustainability, including Dia Mirza and Bhumi Pednekar, will also participate.

Three Strategic Pillars

MCW is structured around three core focus areas central to India’s climate-development agenda:

Food Systems – Anchored by India Climate Collaborative

Energy Transition – Supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Eversource Capital and ISEG Foundation

Urban Resilience – Anchored by WRI India in partnership with HT Parekh Foundation and India Climate Collaborative

Plenary sessions on sub-national climate action, future cities and climate finance will convene Chief Ministers and senior state leaders to accelerate city-level climate implementation.

Innovation and Youth at the Core

Innovation is central to MCW. The MCW Innovation Challenge, led by the National Stock Exchange (NSE), will spotlight startups, academia and civil society innovators across climate themes. Finalists will pitch live to policymakers, funders and industry leaders.

The Youth Green Innovation Challenge, delivered in partnership with UNICEF India and YuWaah, will showcase climate solutions developed by changemakers aged 16–24. Campus roadshows and youth engagements have been underway across January and February.

A first-ever Citizen Speakers’ Corner – VaartaVaran will offer registered participants a free platform to share climate perspectives through talks, poetry, storytelling and creative expression.

Exhibition Arena and Community Activation

The Exhibition Arena at the Hub will feature solution showcases from corporates and institutions including Godrej Group, IDFC FIRST Bank, Mahindra Group, Hindustan Unilever, Mirik Tech and impact enterprises from across India and the Global South.

Beyond the convention centre, MCW’s Sustainability Mela and citywide activations—including public talks, films, art events and citizen workshops—aim to make climate action inclusive and accessible.

A New Model for the Global South

Mumbai Climate Week introduces a distinctly Indian and Global South-led model built on a Public–Private–People partnership architecture. Designed as an annual platform, MCW seeks to track measurable outcomes year-on-year—solutions funded, partnerships formed and policies advanced.

Scheduled from February 17–19, 2026, MCW’s impact will extend beyond the three-day summit through preparatory engagements and post-event synthesis reports, workshops and follow-up collaborations.

Conceptualised by Project Mumbai in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra’s Department of Environment and Climate Change and supported by BMC, Mumbai Climate Week marks a defining moment for India’s climate leadership on the global stage.
