Biokraft Foods, a cultivated meat startup pioneering sustainable protein through advanced 3D bioprinting, has raised Rs 2 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by GVFL, one of India’s pioneering venture capital firms.
The investment will accelerate Biokraft’s efforts to bring ethical, high-quality cultivated meat to Indian consumers and marks a strong validation of the company’s science, strategy, and long-term vision. Kamalnayan Tibrewal, Founder & CEO of Biokraft Foods, said,“Our mission is to harness biotechnology to build sustainable food systems that reduce climate impact, improve animal welfare, and solve the inefficiencies of conventional meat production. GVFL’s support brings us closer to placing real, ethical meat on the plates of consumers.
Founded in 2023, the Mumbai-based startup. Biokraft Foods is working to redefine the future of food by producing real meat without the environmental and ethical costs of traditional farming. Using proprietary 3D bioprinting processes, the company has successfully developed cultivated meat that replicate the structure, texture, and nutritional profile of conventional chicken.
The company’s vision extends beyond chicken. The company also unveiled cultivated trout this year to its portfolio, as part of its vision for a more ethical and resilient food system in India. These breakthroughs highlight the company’s ambition to create a full range of cultivated meat products tailored to the diverse tastes of Indian consumers. Biokraft also aims to build awareness and inspire collaboration within the food ecosystem. This includes launching the Great Indian Cultivated Chicken Cook-Off (GICCC’25), the country’s first culinary competition dedicated to cultivated chicken and conducting tasting events. With demand for affordable protein continuing to grow, traditional meat production is increasingly unsustainable, straining natural resources, public health, and food security.
Biokraft Foods offers a science-driven alternative of real meat grown sustainably, without reliance on
intensive animal farming. By opening its doors to chefs, consumers, and thought leaders, Biokraft’s next chapter is about turning curiosity into acceptance and building a market where innovation meets appetite.
