President Murmu confers Honoris Causa on Dr. Mangi Lal Jat at ICAR-IVRI convocation

President Murmu, conferred the prestigious Honoris Causa (Doctor of Science, D.Sc.) degree upon Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), during the 11th Convocation of the ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), held at its Izatnagar campus.

The honorary degree was awarded in recognition of Dr. Jat’s exceptional and sustained contributions to agricultural science, institutional leadership, and forward-looking policy initiatives that have significantly bolstered India’s agri-food systems. Widely regarded for his work in climate-resilient agriculture, soil health, and integrated farming systems, Dr. Jat has played a pivotal role in aligning Indian agricultural research with national priorities on food security, sustainability, and rural prosperity.

Speaking at the convocation, President Murmu commended Dr. Jat’s visionary leadership and his efforts in bridging scientific innovation with grassroots impact. She highlighted the vital role played by agricultural scientists and institutions like ICAR-IVRI in securing the livelihoods of millions of farmers and ensuring India’s global competitiveness in the agri-sector.
