
The projects aim to boost Bihar’s economy by enhancing irrigation and connectivity. PM Modi highlighted self-reliance and technology as key to transforming the state’s agriculture
On May 30, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and launched development projects worth over Rs 48,520 crore in Karakat, Bihar. In his speech, he highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming agriculture and improving farmers’ livelihoods in the state. In his address, the Prime Minister stated that over 75 lakh farmers in Bihar are benefiting from the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. He also announced the creation of a Makhana Board, emphasizing the global recognition of Bihar’s GI-tagged Makhana and its positive impact on farmers’ incomes.
PM Modi also highlighted plans in the 2025 Union Budget to establish a National Institute for Food Processing in Bihar, aimed at boosting value addition and processing capacity.
He noted the Cabinet’s recent approval to raise the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops, including paddy, benefiting farmers nationwide. Highlighting Bihar’s progress in renewable energy, he mentioned the solar park under construction in Kajra and support for solar-powered agricultural feeders through the PM-KUSUM scheme, helping farmers generate electricity, increase income, and improve productivity.
The Prime Minister emphasized that these rural and agricultural initiatives are empowering small industries and villages by expanding access to national and global markets. Referring to the Bihar Business Summit, he cited commitments from companies to invest in the state, creating jobs that reduce labour migration. Improved transport infrastructure is also enabling farmers to access wider markets, boosting their earnings and strengthening the rural economy.
Prime Minister Modi also highlighted key infrastructure achievements, including the inauguration of the new terminal at Patna Airport and ongoing Rs 1,400 crore investment in Bihta Airport. He noted the operation of world-class Vande Bharat trains in Bihar and the doubling and tripling of railway tracks in important districts like Muzaffarpur and Katihar.
The multi-tracking project between Son Nagar and Andal is expected to greatly enhance rail connectivity. Additionally, major road developments are underway connecting Patna to Buxar, Gaya to Dobhi, and Patna to Bodh Gaya. New bridges over the Ganga, Son, Gandak, and Kosi rivers are also opening fresh pathways for regional growth.
