‘Centurion EZ’: UPL’s latest herbicide targets major crops including soybean and cotton

UPL has officially introduced its latest herbicide, Centurion EZ, to the Indian market. The launch took place last week during dedicated events in Bhopal and Indore, Madhya Pradesh, with the participation of key dealers and distributors. The product is the result of six years of focused research on weed management in soybean, cotton, and onion cultivation across major agricultural regions including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. The launch reflects UPL’s continued commitment to providing innovative, crop-specific solutions for Indian farmers

Centurion EZ (Clethodim 13 per cent w/w EC) is a newly launched post-emergence systemic herbicide developed for targeted control of grassy weeds in soybean, cotton, and onion crops. The herbicide’s active ingredient, Clethodim, is absorbed through the foliage and moves through the plant’s phloem to reach meristematic tissues, where it disrupts key metabolic functions.

The product works by inhibiting Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACCase)—an essential enzyme in fatty acid synthesis. By blocking the conversion of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA, Centurion EZ halts lipid production, leading to impaired cell membrane formation, cellular breakdown, and ultimately, weed death.

UPL recommends applying Centurion EZ 15 to 20 days after sowing, when weeds have developed 2 to 4 leaves and adequate soil moisture is present. The advised dosage is 400 ml per acre, diluted in 200 liters of water. Results, including visible weed suppression or elimination, are typically seen within 4 to 14 days after application.
