The American Chemistry Council has honored FMC Corporation with two Responsible Care Awards: the Waste Management and Water Stewardship Award and the Energy Efficiency Award. These awards recognize FMC’s commitment to environmental stewardship through innovative approaches that minimize waste, reduce emissions, and enhance operational efficiency
FMC Corporation has been recognized with two Responsible Care Awards from the American Chemistry Council, celebrating the company’s outstanding environmental and operational performance at its Mobile, Alabama site. The accolades include the Waste Management and Water Stewardship Award and the Energy Efficiency Award, both highlighting FMC’s commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement.
The Waste Management and Water Stewardship Award honors FMC’s innovative wastewater treatment initiative that enables the facility to treat two-thirds of its manufacturing waste stream onsite. This program diverts approximately 12 million pounds of waste annually from incineration, which previously amounted to over 15 million pounds of process waste burned each year. As a result, the project has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 575 metric tons of CO₂ equivalents and is delivering over $4 million in annual savings.
The Energy Efficiency Award recognizes FMC’s success in reducing natural gas consumption through a targeted process optimization project. By securing a permit modification, the team enabled one of the facility’s vent gas incinerators to operate at a lower temperature, leading to a 29 per cent reduction in natural gas usage. The achievement reflects the Mobile site’s proactive engineering approach and dedication to energy efficiency.
These awards underscore FMC’s leadership in Responsible Care and its strategic focus on sustainable manufacturing practices that deliver measurable environmental and economic benefits.
