PepsiCo and Yara have unveiled a long-term collaboration focused on delivering crop nutrition programs across Latin America, aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the food value chain. The partnership highlights Yara’s capacity to leverage its distinctive product offerings and profitably scale the commercialization of low-carbon solutions
This initiative builds on a previous agreement established in July between PepsiCo and Yara in Europe, where Yara committed to providing PepsiCo’s farmers with high-quality crop nutrition solutions, agronomic support, and digital precision farming tools.
In the initial rollout in Latin America, Yara will deliver its products and services to support potato growers in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina.
“This agreement reinforces the impact of our solutions in reducing emissions from agriculture and food systems,” said Pedro Parenti, Senior Vice President of Yara Latin America. “Partnering with PepsiCo, a leader in sustainable food production, allows us to safeguard the environment for current and future generations.”
The offering will primarily consist of Yara Climate Choice™ fertilizers, which feature low-carbon formulations derived from renewable ammonia or produced using carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. The portfolio will also include Yara’s advanced nitrate-based fertilizers, made with proprietary catalyst technology that significantly reduces emissions. Depending on the product used, these solutions can lower the carbon footprint of potato farming by 20 per cent to 40 per cent per ton.
“This partnership with PepsiCo marks a significant milestone in our commitment to cultivating a nature-positive future for food,” said Chrystel Monthean, Executive Vice President of Yara Americas. “By enhancing fertilizer use efficiency and promoting regenerative agriculture, we’re not only reducing emissions but also strengthening the sustainability of food production.”
The collaboration aligns with Yara’s mission to feed the world responsibly while safeguarding the planet. It demonstrates the commercial viability of working across the value chain to decarbonize food systems. In addition to reflecting both companies’ shared vision for a more sustainable food supply, the partnership will help farmers manage the financial aspects of transitioning to regenerative practices.
“This agreement with Yara represents meaningful progress in advancing our pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) agenda,” said Paula Santilli, CEO of PepsiCo Latin America. “We see Positive Agriculture—which includes our commitment to regenerative farming, sustainable sourcing, and improved livelihoods—as essential to meeting rising global food demands while conserving natural resources and supporting community well-being.”
