The German retail organization EDEKA Group is featuring citrus treated with Apeel Science’s shelf-life extender in select stores.
Nationwide introduction of Apeel-treated oranges and clementines in EDEKA’s German stores is anticipated by the end of the year 2020, according to a news release.
As per the release, EDEKA and Netto Marken-Discount stores previously launched avocados with Apeel’s protective coating at select German stores at the end of 2019.
Apeel’s coating will be used on EDEKA World Wildlife Fund oranges (1.5-kilogram bag), EDEKA Selection oranges “NavelGold” (1-kilogram bag) and EDEKA Selection “ClemenGold” clementines (750-gram bag).
Consumers will find the citrus in selected EDEKA stores in northern Germany and North-Rhine Westphalia, as well as at Netto branches in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony, according to the release.
