An amount of over Rs 21,000 crores was transferred to more than 10 crore beneficiary farmer families

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed the ‘Garib Kalyan Sammelan’ in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. This unique public event was organised in state capitals, district headquarters and Krishi Vigyan Kendras across the country to commemorate the completion of eight years of the government led by Prime Minister Modi.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi also released the 11th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme. An amount of over Rs 21,000 crores was transferred to more than 10 crore beneficiary farmer families.

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar and Minister of Commerce and Industry, Textiles, Food & Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal participated in the programme from Delhi, in which a large number of farmers besides agricultural scientists were present.

The agriculture minister said that in the field of agriculture, concrete work has been done to raise the production and productivity of farmers, promoting use of technology and to ensure that farmers should get reasonable price for their crop. Earlier, wheat and rice were procured at MSP, Modi also started procurement of other farm produce including coarse grains. PM wants that farmer should move forward, their income should be doubled and that farmers adopt crop diversification, use of fertilisers and water is limited, the cost of farming should also come down, hence a campaign has been launched and crores of farmers are getting benefitted.

Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar said that under the leadership of PM Modi, the Government wants to make India self-reliant in the field of palm oil.

The National Mission on Edible Oil- Oil Palm Business Summit for states other than North Eastern States has been inaugurated by the Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar, in Hyderabad on December 28, 2021. Aiming to give wide spread information on newly launched centrally sponsored scheme on edible oils, the Government is organising business summits across the country. This is the second such summit of the Mission, the first was held in Guwahati for North Eastern states in early October this year.

Addressing the Business Summit, the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar assured all the state governments that there will be no shortage of resources for the successful implementation of the National Mission on Edible Oil – Oil Palm. Tomar said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the Government wants to make India self-reliant in the field of palm oil.

Appreciating the efforts made by the Government of Telangana to increase palm oil production, Tomar said that he sees Telangana as an emerging leader in oil palm production.

Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Kailash Choudhary said “At present, we have to import edible oil. Today’s business summit will prove to be important to find a solution to this import.” Expressing his confidence in Mission, he said that with the help of scientists’ research, farmers’ hard work and the government’s support, this mission will achieve its target and will make a significant contribution in making India self-reliant. In order to boost the edible oils’ production, remunerative prices and assured procurement of oilseed crops is being done by the Government, he added.

Distribution of registration certificates for the Farmer Producing Organisations (FPOs) were also done on the occasion.

The three-day summit was attended by over 5000 farmers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed farmers at the National Conclave on Natural Farming through a video conference. Union Ministers Amit Shah, Narendra Singh Tomar, Governor of Gujarat, Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh were among those present on the occasion. The Government of Gujarat organised the National Conclave on Natural Farming. The three-day summit was attended by over 5000 farmers, apart from farmers connected Live through Central Institutes of ICAR, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and ATMA (Agricultural Technology Management Agency) network in the states.

Addressing the farmers, the Prime Minister called for the adaptation of agriculture according to new requirements, new challenges of the journey till the 100th year of independence. The Prime Minister noted that in the last six to seven years, several steps have been taken, from seed to market to increase the income of the farmers. Measures from soil testing to hundreds of new seeds, from PM Kisan Samman Nidhi to fixing MSP at 1.5 times the cost of production, from irrigation to a strong network of Kisan Rail have taken the sector in that direction. He greeted the farmers from all over the countries who were connected to the event.

While acknowledging the important role of chemicals and fertilisers in the Green Revolution, the Prime Minister emphasised the need for working on its alternatives simultaneously. He warned against the dangers of pesticides and imported fertilisers which lead to increased costs of inputs and also cause damage to health. The Prime Minister stressed that this is the right time to take big steps before the problems related to agriculture become even worse. 

“We have to take our agriculture out of the lab of chemistry and connect it to the lab of nature. When I talk about nature’s laboratory, it is completely science-based,” the Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister said today the more modern the world is becoming, the more it is moving towards ‘back to basic’. The Prime Minister said, “It means connecting with your roots. Who understands this better than all of you farmer friends? The more we water the roots, the more the plant grows”, said the Prime Minister.

The three-day summit was attended by over
