CHS has announced that it will begin construction of a new state-of-the-art grain facility with 1.25 million bushels of additional storage capacity in Erskine, Minn. The facility is slated to be operational in the fall of 2023 and will help CHS expand operational capabilities and increase efficiency across its footprint. The new shuttle elevator will bring total capacity at the location to 4.55 million bushels of storage and will complement existing CHS grain, agronomy and energy assets and offerings for area producers.

Rick Dusek, executive vice president of CHS ag retail operations stated, “Our people, assets, capabilities and operational footprint are the strengths of our retail platform, and this important project advances our strategy to expand our customer-focused retail solutions platform, creating value and driving growth for farmers – as customers and owners. The new terminal is the latest in a series of investments throughout Minnesota and North Dakota by CHS. In keeping with its core value of safety, the company has placed priority on safety features and advancements to improve operating conditions.

“Along with expanding our grain handling capabilities and value to area farmers, the new facility will create advantages for our employees, farmers and community,” says James Hardy, who manages CHS Northern Grain, a CHS business unit with 11 grain facilities in northwest Minnesota.

The demand for pre-processing equipment holds the largest market share, and it is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 7.0 per cent in the coming years

According to the market research report published by P&S Intelligence, the global fruit and vegetable processing equipment market accounted for $5.6 billion revenue in 2021, which is set to reach $10.2 billion by 2030, advancing at a 6.9 per cent CAGR between 2021 and 2030. The growing population and changing food choices, as people’s purchasing behaviour shifts toward higher-value commodities, are the major factors driving the market.

The demand for pre-processing equipment holds the largest market share, and it is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 7.0 per cent in the coming years. This is because fruits and vegetables gathered from farms contain dirt, germs, external nutrients, and biocides, making them unfit for direct eating.

Key findings:

  • In the fruit and vegetable processing equipment market, the packaging and handling equipment category is expected to grow at a significant rate. This will be due to the rising need for packaging and handling equipment to extend the products’ shelf life and mandates by government for proper product labelling.
  • Due to the high nutritional content, manufacturers of plant-based meals are focused on legumes, fruits and vegetables, and pulses to improve the flavour and texture of meals, which offers lucrative opportunities to industry players.
  • The APAC fruit and vegetable processing equipment market is advancing at a significant rate due to the surging population, growing FDI, changing food preferences, and increasing disposable income.
  • The US has a massive market for the equipment in North America, since it ranks third in the globe for ready-to-eat and packaged food consumption. Furthermore, the safety precautions implemented by authorities such as the FDA have resulted in a stronger public trust in processed food.

The minister was speaking at the recently held CII Manufacturing Conclave 2022

India will play an increasing role in the revival and restoration of international economies, said Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Textiles, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution at CII Manufacturing Conclave 2022.

“We do have international geopolitical uncertainties as we see today on the Ukraine-Russia crisis, but I am very confident that India will play an increasingly important role in the revival and restoration of international economies in the years ahead. In the post-covid world we are going to see a new world order and India, though we may be a $3 trillion economy today, should aspire for very, very bold and aggressive targets. I think we can still aim for the $5 trillion economy by 2026 but it’s not possible unless all of you participate with full gusto in this very, very ambitious plan,” said Goyal in his address through video conferencing.

Goyal called upon the industry champions to invest heavily in labour-intensive sectors.

“You have the power to lift the millions out of poverty, you have the power to give a better quality of life to the underprivileged. Together we can create not lakhs but crores of jobs in the Textiles sector, Agri/Food Processing, there are so many sectors where Labour is an important element of cost, that’s our competitive or comparative advantage that we should leverage,” he said.

Goyal said India needs to focus on our EDGE in Global Competition, – Economies of Scale, Demographic Dividend, Government and Industry focus on Quality & Efficiency. “For ‘Brand India’ to emerge, we need a mindset change towards quality from Compliance to Consciousness,” he said.
