The Feed Mill Biosecurity Audit app enables mill managers and quality teams to establish a baseline for biosecurity standards by identifying areas of concern, implementing sound manufacturing practices and adhering to regulatory biosecurity requirements

Feed pathogen control specialist, Anitox has launched the first free app to collect and present feed mill biosecurity audit records for all geographies and regulatory bodies.

Dr Enrique Montiel, Anitox’s Global Director of Nutrition and Live Production, explains: “Auditing feed mills and amassing the evidence and data needed to produce meaningful biosecurity programs can be a headache. For years our feed mill technologists have been walking facilities with customers, collecting evidence and preparing reports for regulatory and compliance bodies across the globe. That has become significantly easier, thanks to the new feed mill biosecurity audit app.”

The Feed Mill Biosecurity Audit app enables mill managers and quality teams to establish a baseline for biosecurity standards by identifying areas of concern, implementing sound manufacturing practices and adhering to regulatory biosecurity requirements.

Anitox is uniquely placed to produce the audit app, having a longstanding relationship with one of Europe’s leading independent feed microbial quality auditors.

“Our team of feed milling technologists and technical specialists solve Salmonella, virus and other feed pathogen-related challenges on a daily basis; now that knowledge has been put the good use for the wider community. Having proven the technology with our loyal customers, we’ve decided it’s too useful to keep to ourselves.”

App users can be confident their data is protected and private. Anitox has given up the right to track user-given audit data to make it the most secure and private offering available.

Available for free in iOs and Google Play Stores, the Feed Mill Biosecurity Audit app allows mill managers and their teams to save past audits and access a Feed Mill Technologist with just the touch of a button.

Through this partnership, Exacta will use Ginkgo’s fermentation and formulation optimisation services to reduce the cost of goods to make its FitoRoot technology more competitive

Exacta Bioscience, a biotech company and Ginkgo Bioworks, which is building the leading platform for cell programming and biosecurity announced that Exacta is leveraging Ginkgo’s end-to-end agricultural R&D services to run a fermentation optimisation and scale-up program to enhance one of its crop protection products, FitoRoot, paving the way for large-scale commercialisation.

FitoRoot, a biostimulant product composed of three Bacillus strains, is designed to help crops better absorb water and nutrients and strengthen their defences against abiotic stress. This can lead to overall better crop health, improved yield and increased resistance to stress conditions such as drought or extreme temperatures. Through this partnership, Exacta will use Ginkgo’s fermentation and formulation optimisation services to reduce the cost of goods to make its FitoRoot technology more competitive. Accordingly, FitoRoot is currently marketed in Chile and is expected to expand to other Latin American markets, with a planned launch in 2023 by Adama Chile, which is driving biological adoption in the region. Adama Ltd. is one of the world’s leading crop protection companies.

“We chose Ginkgo because their deep expertise in agricultural product development and optimisation positions us to make one of our key crop protection products, FitoRoot, more accessible,” said José Bustos, CEO at Exacta Bioscience. “We’re proud of the progress Exacta has made, and this partnership marks a vital step toward accelerating our efforts to assure the quality and availability of one of our products and creating a stable and safer ecosystem.”

“Exacta Bioscience’s emphasis on microbial solutions in crop health brings more sustainable and differentiated solutions to farmers throughout the Americas,” said Magalie Guilhabert, Head of Ag Biologicals, Ginkgo Bioworks. “Together, we can continue to push the boundaries of agricultural innovation through biotechnological solutions that promote a more sustainable future for our food systems.”

The two sides discussed the potential bilateral cooperation to strengthen livestock health management system, genetic upgradation of livestock, biosecurity measures, capacity building

Parshottam Rupala, Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, held a bilateral meeting with Marie-Claude Bibeau, Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

The two sides discussed the potential bilateral cooperation to strengthen livestock health management system, genetic upgradation of livestock, biosecurity measures, capacity building etc. Both sides felt that there is much to learn from each other in the related fields.

Exchanging information and expertise will help build the knowledge and capability of each other’s animal husbandry sector, which will have mutual benefits for both countries.

Both the dignitaries have discussed various ideas to further strengthen the close and special unique India- Canadian friendship.

In 2022, India was the ninth-largest trading partner of Canada. It was a noteworthy year for trade relations between the two countries, with bilateral trade in goods reaching an impressive value of approximately $8.2 billion. This represents a remarkable growth rate of around 25 per cent compared to the trade volume of 2021.

In FY 2022-23, bilateral trade in goods reached US$6.9 billion, with Indian exports amounting to $3.48 billion. Canadian exports to India amounted to $3.42 billion, during the period.

The announcement was made in a Joint Statement by the Australian Prime Minister and the Prime Minister of India in March 2023

Australian Hass avocados have received provisional access to the Indian market. New access was granted after Australia demonstrated that its high-quality avocados could meet India’s biosecurity and food import requirements.

10 trial shipments will be sent to India during the provisional access period. Full access will be granted if these shipments meet India’s import requirements.

New access was announced in a Joint Statement by the Australian Prime Minister and the Prime Minister of India in March 2023.

The Australian Government is working with the avocado industry to facilitate the ten-shipment trial.

India has a small but growing avocado import market. In 2021-22, India imported
A$4.8 million of avocados, up from A$2.4 million in 2020-21 and A$1.6 million in 2019-20.

Imported avocados are a high-end product in India. They are most likely to enter the hospitality and food service sectors.

India imports avocados from New Zealand at 41 per cent, the EU at 39 per cent and Peru at 17 per cent. All of these exporters are subject to India’s 30 per cent Most Favoured Nation (MFN) import tariff. Under AI-ECTA, tariffs on Australian avocados have been reduced and will gradually decline to 0.

The average import unit price of New Zealand avocados in India in 2021-22 was A$4.81/kg. This is lower than the average unit import price of Australian avocados in Hong Kong (A$5.57kg) and Malaysia (A$5.54/kg) but similar to Singapore (A$4.84/kg).
