IPL and Jain Irrigations Systems join hands for tech-driven sugarcane cultivation in Gujarat

As part of the collaboration, IPL and JISL will jointly promote efficient irrigation and fertigation technologies aimed at improving water-use efficiency and enhancing sugarcane productivity.

Indian Potash Limited (IPL) and Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (JISL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote scientific, sustainable, and technology-driven sugarcane cultivation in Gujarat through the adoption of drip irrigation and precision farming practices.

The partnership will focus on the survey, design, supply, and installation of drip irrigation systems, while also undertaking capacity-building initiatives, farmer training programmes, and field demonstrations to encourage the adoption of modern sugarcane cultivation practices, IPL said in a statement.

As part of the collaboration, IPL and JISL will jointly promote efficient irrigation and fertigation technologies aimed at improving water-use efficiency and enhancing sugarcane productivity. The two companies will also demonstrate modern irrigation solutions, precision input management, and improved agronomic practices to support sustainable farming.

The initiative includes organising farmer awareness campaigns, workshops, and on-field demonstrations to strengthen growers’ understanding of micro-irrigation technologies and best agronomic practices. These efforts are expected to improve crop productivity while enabling more efficient use of water and agricultural inputs.

The companies will also facilitate access to credit and grant support for eligible farmers adopting Micro Irrigation Systems (MIS). The initiative is expected to help farmers achieve higher yields, better crop quality, and improved farm incomes.

The collaboration brings together JISL’s expertise in drip and micro-irrigation technologies with IPL’s strong presence in the sugar sector through its sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Odisha. The companies said the partnership reflects their shared commitment to equipping sugarcane growers with innovative technologies and practical solutions that improve productivity while conserving water resources.

Commenting on the partnership, Girdhar Loh, State Head, Gujarat, Jain Irrigation Systems Limited, said, “This partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of drip irrigation in sugarcane, improving water-use efficiency, enhancing crop productivity, reducing cultivation costs, increasing farmers’ incomes, and promoting sustainable growth of India’s sugar and biofuel sectors.”

The initiative aligns with the broader push towards climate-resilient agriculture by promoting resource-efficient cultivation practices that support both farmer profitability and long-term sustainability of the sugarcane value chain.
