Indo-Japanese dairy collaboration targets premium value-added dairy segment

Partnership aims to combine farm-level digitisation with Japanese craftsmanship to expand India’s premium gelato and dairy product ecosystem

mooMark Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Stellapps Technologies, has entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding with Japan’s Akiba Farm Holdings to develop a premium gelato initiative in India, marking a significant step in cross-border dairy innovation between the two countries.

The partnership brings together mooMark’s digitally enabled, end-to-end traceable dairy ecosystem and Akiba Farm Holdings’ expertise in artisanal dairy production and premium gelato craftsmanship, creating a framework aimed at scaling value-added dairy offerings for evolving consumer markets.

mooMark operates a large-scale dairy digitisation network spanning thousands of villages across multiple Indian states, supporting millions of farmers through data-driven supply chain visibility and farm-to-factory traceability. The collaboration is positioned to leverage this infrastructure to enable consistent quality, transparency, and efficiency in premium dairy production.

Beyond product development, the initiative includes the establishment of a dedicated innovation mini-lab focused on premium dairy formulation, inspired by Japanese principles of precision, craftsmanship, and continuous refinement. The partnership also extends into upstream dairy practices, introducing Japanese Total Mixed Ration feeding systems designed to optimise cattle nutrition, improve milk yields, and enhance sustainability outcomes.

Pilot implementations of advanced feeding protocols are expected to be integrated gradually across mooMark’s extensive smallholder network, supported by digital monitoring systems that enable real-time data capture across the dairy value chain.

The collaboration has been facilitated with support from international trade and industry bodies, reflecting broader momentum in Indo-Japanese cooperation in food systems innovation, agricultural technology, and sustainable dairy development.

The initiative is also expected to create pathways for knowledge transfer in dairy management practices, while strengthening India’s capabilities in premium dairy manufacturing and export-oriented value addition.

As demand for differentiated dairy products grows in both domestic and global markets, the partnership signals an emerging shift toward technology-enabled, quality-driven dairy ecosystems that integrate scale with craftsmanship.
