UPL clinches ‘Best Patent Portfolio’ at CII Industrial IP Awards 2025

Agri-input major UPL has been recognised with the ‘Best Patent Portfolio’ Award in Life Science & Agriculture and ranked among the Top 30 IP-Driven Organisations (Large Enterprises) at the 11th edition of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Industrial IP Awards 2025.

The CII Industrial IP Awards honour organisations that demonstrate leadership in intellectual property creation, protection, and commercialisation, while translating innovation into sustained business growth and broader economic impact. UPL’s recognition reflects the scale of its global research and development engine and its emphasis on embedding intellectual property as a strategic asset across its life sciences and agricultural platforms.

With a portfolio of more than 3,000 granted patents worldwide and approximately 4,400 patent applications pending, UPL has built one of the most expansive IP pipelines in the global agri-inputs sector. The company’s patent strategy spans crop protection, biologicals, seed technologies, and digital agriculture, reinforcing its transition toward science-led, sustainable farming solutions.

The award also highlights UPL’s efforts to align innovation with farmer productivity, environmental resilience, and food system efficiency—priorities that are increasingly shaping competitive advantage in global agriculture. As regulatory scrutiny intensifies and sustainability expectations rise, robust IP portfolios are emerging as key differentiators for agri-science companies seeking long-term value creation.

UPL’s inclusion among India’s top IP-driven large enterprises underscores the growing role of intellectual property in defining leadership within the agri-input industry, as companies pivot from volume-led growth to innovation-led differentiation.
