
Harrisons Malayalam Ltd. (HML), an RPG Group company and one of South India’s largest tea producers, has secured the prestigious Gold Medal at the North American Tea Competition 2025. The recognition was awarded to the tea from HML’s Arrapetta Estate in Wayanad, Kerala, at the 2025 Gold Medal Tea and Sustainability Awards during the 14th annual North American Tea Conference held in Charleston, USA.
Winning in the Specialty Teas from Different Origins category, HML’s entry stood out for exceptional quality, consistency, and sustainable plantation practices. The competition evaluated 31 samples from India and numerous entries from leading global tea-producing nations, underscoring the international significance of the award.
HML operates 24 estates across Kerala and Tamil Nadu and is recognized as the largest producer-exporter of tea from South India. Over the years, it has earned multiple Golden Leaf India Awards (TGLIA) and supplies sustainably certified teas endorsed by Rainforest Alliance, ISO, Trustea, and the Ethical Tea Partnership. Its teas are exported to 14 countries, reinforcing its reputation as a trusted global supplier. HML is also consistently recognized by the Great Place to Work Institute, India, and remains one of the largest private employers in Kerala, with women comprising nearly 60 per cent of its workforce.
Organized by the Tea Association of the U.S.A., Inc. and the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada, the North American Tea Competition cements HML’s position among the leading promoters of Indian specialty teas globally. This recognition reinforces the company’s mission to blend traditional expertise with modern innovation, advancing India’s footprint in the global specialty tea landscape.
