Investors back PeelON with $1Mn to drive sustainable packaging innovation

PeelON, a biotechnology startup pioneering sustainable packaging solutions, has raised $1 Mn in seed funding led by growX ventures, with participation from Boston Venture Group, Clean Energy Venture Group, and Climate Angels.

PeelON develops biodegradable and compostable packaging films that extend the shelf life of fresh produce while replacing single-use plastics in the supply chain. Its solutions are already being used for crops such as cilantro, broccoli, leafy greens, rambutan, and banana across key farming regions in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, as well as in Texas, Florida, and California in the United States.

The company works closely with farmers, exporters, and retailers to ensure that produce remains fresher for longer, reducing post-harvest losses and supporting sustainable supply chains.

With this funding, PeelON will expand R&D and production capabilities at its Visakhapatnam facility, strengthen its teams in both India and the US, and accelerate certifications and regulatory approvals in new markets. The company also plans to broaden its footprint into Mexico and Southeast Asia, building on growing global demand for eco-friendly packaging.

Plastic waste in agriculture and food systems is a pressing global challenge. The mission at PeelON is to provide an affordable, scalable alternative that not only reduces plastic dependency but also delivering tangible benefits to farmers, exporters, and consumers. This investment shall take the technology to new markets while scaling production to meet rising demand.

The funding underscores growing investor confidence in climate-tech and sustainable agri-food innovations emerging from India.
