Saga Robotics, maker of the Thorvald autonomous platform for vineyards and soft fruit production, has secured €9.5 million in fresh equity to accelerate its commercial rollout in the UK and US. The raise, completed in two tranches, drew support from both existing backers—including Aker, Nysnø Climate Investments and MP Pensjon along with new investors led by Luxembourg-based Praesidium Agri-FoodTech.
Founded in 2016, Saga has turned Thorvald from a prototype into a commercially deployed system now operating across more than 150 units in the 2025 season. The robots, used for UV-C disease control, yield prediction, and precision data collection, already treat around 20 per cent of the UK’s strawberry market and cover 1,300 acres of vineyards in California. With approvals under California’s CORE incentive programme, the company expects to triple its US footprint by 2026 while targeting over 30 per cent of the UK strawberry sector.
“This raise gives us the runway to scale adoption and reduce chemical use in two of the most input-intensive specialty crop markets,” said founder Pål Johan From, now leading US expansion. CEO Sacha de La Noë added, “With strong traction on both sides of the Atlantic, we’re entering a new phase focused on scale and impact.”
Saga’s board has also added industry expertise, with Elliptic Labs CEO Laila Danielsen joining as a director and Alice Laurora of Praesidium Agri-FoodTech as an observer. The funding follows solid commercial performance, according to Chair Dorn Wenninger, who said investor interest underlines “The strong foundations of our core business and growth pipeline.”
