India’s agri-tech sector marked a milestone this week as the first-ever interstate trade under the National Agriculture Market (eNAM) between Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra successfully reached Pune. A truck carrying 11 metric tonnes of apples and pears from the Kashmir Valley arrived at the Gultekdi Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), underscoring the platform’s role in digitally linking agricultural markets across state borders.
The eNAM platform, launched by the Government of India, connects APMCs nationwide to create a unified digital marketplace for agricultural commodities, according to ANI. Maharashtra has been among the earliest adopters, integrating 133 of its APMCs into the system. The initiative aims to ensure better price discovery, quality assurance, and transparent transactions, while reducing the need for physical market visits.
This inaugural trade between J&K and Maharashtra demonstrates how the digital mechanism enables farmers and traders from distant regions to bypass traditional barriers, middlemen, and inefficiencies. The system provides verified market access across the country, saving both time and transport costs for participants.
With more APMCs being linked and adoption growing among stakeholders, eNAM is rapidly evolving into a cornerstone of India’s transparent, efficient, and technology-driven agricultural market infrastructure.
